Ronald Way

RONALD WAY

Ronald Way is a man of many parts, many skills, and many accomplishments. He is one of those rare individuals who seem to be able to do many things, and do them all well. The Disciple is only the latest in a lifelong series of successes for the author.

Way’s life story begins conventionally. A bright and ambitious young man, he was selected to attend the Naval Academy, however, after hearing a lecture from an architect, he changed course and never looked back. He enrolled at the University of Southern California and in his first year won one of the top scholarships given to

undergraduate students.

After graduation in 1966, with the war in Viet Nam raging, Way joined the Navy and became a naval officer in the Civil Engineer Corps, eventually being selected to the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserve before retiring with 20 years of service to his country.

After leaving the service, Way worked as a project architect for the second largest A&E firm in the country, and 4 years later founded his own architectural firm; later adding a real estate development company and construction firm to round out his holdings.

Then one July day in 1981 Way underwent a life changing experience. On a very public beach, out of nowhere, Way was knocked off his feet by a blinding light. Like Saul of Tarsus (Paul of the New Testament) before him, Way came face to face with Jesus. In his vision he was asked if he would be willing to “give up everything.”

On that momentous day, Way made his commitment and gave up the life he had worked so hard to attain; “including my brand new Porsche Carrera,” he humorously adds, to write the book that eventually became The Disciple.

“If you really do see Jesus right there in front of you, and he asks you to give up everything, what else can you do?” Way comments with a shrug, “I did what he asked of me. I gave up my life as I knew it and followed the vision.”

This experience on the beach led him half way around the world to Israel and then on to Egypt to discover once again the world of his teacher—Jesus. “Miracles do occur,” Way says, as he shares this amazing time in history though the eyes of an old disciple named Asher ben Ammi. In one sense, he didn’t write the book at all. As he says, “I simply opened myself to the ‘memory’ and wrote as fast as I could, describing what I saw, what I heard, what I smelled, and what I felt.” From deep within he drew upon ancient memories and brings the reader a compelling chronicle of the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth. He relates the truth in a very different manner—because he was there!

With the mission accomplished and not knowing what else to do, Ron Way returned to California and the world of business. For the past 25 years he has founded and operated several companies. He is currently the founder and managing director of a web design and communications company in Solvang, California, and is a 2-time

award winner of the prestigious Inc 500 award. He is also the founder and chairman of the FallenWarrior.org foundation, aiding widows and the families of the soldiers that have died in the service of their country.

During this “time of waiting” as he calls it, he began to read everything that he could about the historical Jesus. He also launched a nation-wide radio show called an Eye on Faith that aired for 2 years and won the prestigious New York Festival of Arts award as the third best religious show in the world, and the best in the United States.

You can hear tapes of these shows on this website www.thedisciplesite.com or subscribe to them on iTunes. On this show he interviewed

Christian scholars, archeologists, spiritual and religious leaders of many faiths. The series presents a fascinating adventure into spirit and faith that should keep you engrossed for hours.

Way has been a member and now sits on the board of directors of the Westar Institute—popularly known as the Jesus Seminar—made up of some 70 New Testament scholars from around the world who study the historical Jesus and the beginning centuries of the Christian faith.
