Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

 

Lloyd Edwards has been working in the heating and air conditioning trade since 1980. After completing a 4 year tour of duty in the US Marine Corps. Lloyd attended Central Piedmont Community College and maintained a 4.0 GPA, subsequently he was awarded ASHRAE student of the year. Lloyd presently manage and or service over 200,000 tons of mechanical cooling equipment, from centrifugal chillers to window units, from heat pumps to process cooling systems.  His company, Edwards Air, is insured, bonded and holds a State Mechanical Contractors license H1, H2 & H3 Class 1, State Electrical Contractors license SP-PH., Universal EPA 608 Refrigerant Recovery Certification, and EPA 609 motor vehicle air conditioning Technician certificate and is an Authorized Gas Contractor with Piedmont Natural Gas Company. Lloyd has received formal training from North Carolina State University, Trane, Carrier, Coleman and JCI Johnson Controls on Energy Efficient HVAC design and Indoor Air Quality. Lloyd is currently serving as an evening HVAC instructor at OMITT trade School. Charlotte NC. OMITT, "Onsite-Offsite Maintenance, Industrial & Technical Training", provides hands-on training programs where students select a learning module for the basic skills of electrical installation/maintenance, HVAC repair/maintenance All students learn four-function math,  blueprint reading, and the use of basic hand tools, machine shop tools,  mechanical fasteners, and precision measurement instruments. OMITT, partners with Goodwill Industries, Habitat for Humanity, Charlotte-Mecklenburg sheriff’s Department and many other state and local agencies to provide certified training programs.


Describe your book ‘Heating and Air Conditioning tips for Homeowners’ in 30 words or less.

 

Your heating and air conditioning unit is the single most expensive system in your home. This book will simplify the different heating and air conditioning systems. It provides elementary text on the relationships and operation of every component of indoor comfort equipment. The subject will be thorough yet, written using, non-technical language which anyone will understand, regardless of their technical aptitude. Anyone will be able to diagnose and correct some problems with their Heating and Air conditioning systems. You will find troubleshooting procedures, maintenance tips and details, which will extend the life and energy efficiency of your heating and air conditioning system. It includes all technical terms with illustrations and definitions of heating and cooling systems from oil furnaces to heat pumps. The book also includes a section on domestic refrigerator repairs and information on controlling Radon Gases in your home.

 

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

 

Finding the time to write in my schedule. I found the time by staying up nearly all night on Fridays. I was then able to sleep in on Saturdays my day off from work.



What books have had the greatest influence on you?

 

To this end, the For Dummies book series most influence me to write my book. People need clear concise information to aide them through some of lives trials. Having a broken air conditioning system can cause much stress not to mention discomfort in your life.

Besides Freado, my book has been market of E-Bay, Amazon, and google, Facebook, My Space, Lulu.com and Craigslist.

 

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

 

Boating, motor scootering around town, surfing the web

 

What are you working on next?

 

Blog and or book on the advancements in the HVAC industry. New refrigerants, R-22 via R410, via R407C, which refrigerants makes for a more efficient and reliable cooling system.  High efficient Mini-split systems for the home and business.
