Veronica Bower-Feek

I'm a crime writer who works in the criminal justice system.

My book is a fast paced page-turner, based in reality.

I come from a writing background, the most famous writer being my cousin 'Vita Sackville-West'. Vita was a well respected writer and society character. She also had a long and public 'liaison' with Virginia Wolf.

My father, 'David Newman' is the author of 'The Forgotten Path', the true story of his crossing of the Sahara Desert in a car! He was also the film producer who produced Judi Dench's first film, 'He Who Rides A Tiger'

I have two grown up children, Mark and Gemma, and two grown up foster children, Charley and Jonathan.

Off topic, but for those of you interested in politics, my great grandfather, Sir Gerald Strickland, was, among other things, the Prime Minister of Malta.

I continue to work, based in a Magistrate's Court as a Probation Court Duty Officer.

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I've worked for Surrey and Sussex Probation Trust for the last twelve years, spending three years based in a B category prison. I'm currently a Probation Court Duty Officer, so I'm based within a city Magistrate's Court.
I have two grown up children, Mark and Gemma, and two grown up foster children, Charley and Jonathan. I also have two lovely teenage grandchildren!

2. Describe your book ‘REVOLVING DOOR’ in 30 words or less.

'Revolving Door' is the story of a young man's struggle to stay out of prison. It takes the reader on a switchback ride between his present day dramas and his childhood adversity.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The hardest part was finding the time to write so in the end I went away to my flat in Goa and wrote furiously until it was finished. I then had days and days of editing!

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

I loved all the Gerald Durrell book as a young teenager/adult, but I think the books of Ruth Rendell have influenced me the most. My favorite all time book is 'The Kite Runner'

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

I use social media and sites such as Authonomy and Goodreads and of course Bookbuzzr! I also have a website and a blog and have even advertised by Radio in the States. I am planning a local radio advert and intend to feature my book at the next London Book Fair. I sell quite a lot of my books to solicitors and court staff, whilst at work!

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

Aside from book marketing, I spend my time with my partner Adrian. We love to walk and explore the local countryside and he is a keen geocacher. I work full time.

7. What are you working on next?

I have another book in mind, but I have to concentrate on book marketing at the moment so it's only in the planning stage. I have been asked to write a sequel to 'Revolving Door' by many of my readers, but I'm still considering that.
