Nicole Delacroix

author of the fantasy paranormal novel Glimpse of Darkness.  I knew from the moment I could first write that writing would always be a part of who I am.  From short stories to dabbling in scriptwriting I pass my time with my day job but feverishly write well into the nights.  My passion for literature encompasses many different genres but my heart beats true with fantasy and science fiction.  Fiercely loyal to friends and family I eagerly await the day when I can move to London England, my childhood dream.

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I grew up in a military family so we moved around a great deal and making friends was difficult for me.  My mother bought me a diary and encouraged me to write from a very young age.  Between that and the love of literature my family instilled in me, I guess I was always destined to write.  I'm also in love with everything British and long to move to London one day.  I currently live outside of Atlanta GA and am currently still kissing frogs in search of a Prince.  I'm also well versed in the art of sarcasm and speak profanity and double entendres fluently.  As you can see, I don't take myself very seriously - it's life after all, no one gets out alive.

2. Describe your book Glimpse of Darkness Volume 1: Chronicles of the Cursed in 30 words or less.

A young girl loses her father, finds out she's half angel, is marked for death and leaves the life she knows to follow a stranger who's come to help her.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

There is one "adult" scene in the book, and while I have no problems reading explicit content, writing them was a new experience for me.  I knew what I wanted it to be, but finding the words and being able to express them was difficult.  It forced me to face a part of myself with honesty and bravery that I didn't know I had, so it's had an unexpected lingering affect on me.  It's taught me something about myself and I feel more confident.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

My favorite book, which I read every year Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte has probably been the biggest impact on who I am.  While most read it for the romance, I sympathize with Heathcliff most of all.  His longing for love and belonging and the despair he feels from his own pettiness speaks volumes to me.  I'm also a HUGE Tolkein fan - so much so that I even have a LOtR tattoo.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

Social Media, blog tours, giveaways, promotional pricing and review swapping.  I think I'd learn smoke signaling and semaphore if I thought it would promote my book.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

I'm an avid reader (what writer isn't?) and I try to read a book a week.  I'm also a huge Sci-Fi fan, so anytime there is a new SciFi movie out, I'll be first in line (Can't wait for the new Star Wars!).  Other than that, I work a full time job as an IT Professional and am excited that I'm going to be an Aunt very soon.

7. What are you working on next?

I'm working on the follow up piece to "Glimpse of Darkness" which is entitled "Blind Horizon".  It will pick up where Glimpse left off and continue the story.  In addition to that, the honesty and bravery I experienced in writing the adult scene inspired a non-fiction book that I'm hoping to publish very soon tentatively titled "How Brave Are You?".  This piece is more of a 'read your diary' kind of book that I'm hoping will be fun as I had so much fun writing it.  I'm also trying my hand on a piece outside my comfort genre and I'm working on a ghost/horror story.  I find it very freeing to step outside of myself and try new things.  Hopefully it makes me a better writer.
