Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I live in South Central Texas, and work days as a photographer. I moonlight as a writer, and spend my evenings writing my books, although these days I spend as much time marketing as I do writing. I love horses, and have four of them: three Arabians and an Arabian/Friesian cross. My extracurricular activities also include rescuing cats - which is why I am now up to nine of them.

2. Describe your book ‘In a Wolf's Eyes (The Saga of the Black Wolf Book One)’ in 30 words or less.

A fast-paced, page-turner that makes you love the heroes and hate the villain. It'll keep you up reading way past your bedtime. You'll love it.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Having some extra, unexpected, time on my hands with which to write and having no creative thoughts going round inside my head. That bites.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

I'd rather say which authors had a great influence to begin with: Stephen King's (his descriptions), Dick Francis mysteries (his adorable Brit-speak). I think as far as books go, the David Eddings fantasy series had much influence on me, insofar as how to write fantasy as well as what NOT to do. Love the man's writing, but his passive voice makes me nuts.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

OK, where do I start? Facebook, of course, and Twitter (although I don't tweet as much as I should), LinkdIn writers groups are enormously helpful, and I surf the Net searching for folks willing to offer reviews. Right now I'm on a blog tour with "In a Wolf's Eyes" and will tour another with "Catch a Wolf" next month. I also blog with the hopes of catching some attention, as well as find websites that offer to send notices of my novels out to their e-mails lists. I have other ideas to try, but haven't done so yet, as my time is limited. I'll get to them soon, though.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

Outside of working? ;-) I take care of my horses, clean up after them, try to find some ambition to work with them, take my cats for an evening catwalk (usually when I try to round up a certain stray who likes to wander too far from home), and talking to other horse-minded folks. Saturday night is my movie night, so that's usually spent on the couch. Outside of all that? A beer (or two) with friends.

7. What are you working on next?

A fantasy novel outside my "Saga of the Black Wolf" series. Its called "The Unforgiven" and no, its not even close to the Clint Eastwood Western. Its a stand-alone book and may turn into a series one day. Maybe. The first few chapters of it can be found on my blog at www.akatierose.me and my website at www.akatierose.com.
