Description

Enter a world of wonder deep inside the earth as 11-year-old geologist Madison Terrence follows her pet gopher down a stairpath portal she discovers in her family’s cavern.

When she descends the Krybosian Stairpath, a mystery from her family’s past begins to unravel.  She soon realizes her arrival in the interior world of Krybos is no accident. Madison discovers that she’s been pulled into a sinister plot to destroy the most beautiful place she has ever seen.

Join Madison, her younger brother, Mica, and her best friend, Onyx,  as they follow the Krybosian Stairpath into the depths of the earth to explore the wonders and dangers that await them in the hidden world of Krybos.

The Krybosian Stairpath (TKS)is a middle-grade novel intended for young readers who love adventure and mystery.  Filled with actual references to geologic features of the earth, caves in particular, this story pushes beyond fact and creates a fantasy realm with other-worldly geologic possibilities.

The Krybosian Stairpath does not rely on magic to explain the unexplainable. It puts forth the notion that, just because you don’t understand something, it doesn’t mean there’s magic behind it. Knowledge and perspective can make a difference.

For a child, a book should be a place to escape the real-life stress and horrors that are ever present in our world and to which no one is immune—not a place to read about more.  SRR chose to suggest events in TKS which allows the child to make the decision as to what the ultimate outcome may have been.  She believes a child accustomed to violent video games may automatically assume the worst.  Another child may think differently.  In TKS, that decision is left to the reader.

The title, The Krybosian Stairpath, refers to the stairway portal that appears and leads Madison, her younger brother, Mica, and her best friend, Onyx Ruiz, into the interior world of Krybos. In the Greek language, “krybo” means “to hide.” The world of Krybos is hidden from those who dwell on the surface, but not from those who dare to descend the Krybosian Stairpath.

Book Review: "I'd definitely recommend this book to Middle Grade readers, but I can also see older readers being intrigued as well. In fact, any person out there who enjoys a mixture of Science and Fantasy will be pleasantly surprised with this book."
