The biggest inspiration that went into writing The Summer Solstice Series was my move to Florida back in 2008, and experiencing the newness of my surroundings. Being a Hawaiian-born girl, I've always had a thing for beaches and the sun and thought it would be fun to write a book about a girl who is new to an area where its strangeness is its beauty. The mythology and magic of the series came after I found the location of the town I wanted to set it in. Apollo Beach was an intriguing name and inspired some research. From there, the Greek Mythology elements began to take on a life of their own.
