CarmenShirkey was born in Staunton, VA. She received her degree inRhetoric and Communications from the University of Virginia (she’s acrazy Wahoos fan) where she was also a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Shethen proceeded to become a gypsy – moving from city to city. Currently, sheresides in VA, but who knows where she’ll turn up next. Her cat, Pooh Bear,would prefer to stay in one place so he can adequately mark his territory.

Asidefrom writing, Carmen’s passion is for travel. She once got a fortune cookiethat told her that she would “step on the soil of many countries,” and she tookit seriously. She hopes that enough people will buy her book so she can go onpermanent vacation, instead of packing all her travel into two measly weekseach year. That’s the amount of vacation time she gets in her full-time gig asa Web editor.

<p><span><span>Harold Godwineson, the Last Anglo-Saxon King, owed everything to his father. Who was this Godwine, first Earl of Wessex and known as the Kingmaker? Was he an unscrupulous schemer, using King and Witan to gain power? Or was he the greatest of all Saxon Earls, protector of the English against the hated Normans? The answer depends on who you ask. He was befriended by the Danes, raised up by Canute the Great, given an Earldom and a wife from the highest Danish ranks. He sired nine children, among them four Earls, a Queen and a future King. Along with his power came a struggle to keep his enemies at bay, and Godwine's best efforts were brought down by the misdeeds of his eldest son Swegn. Although he became father-in-law to a reluctant Edward the Confessor, his fortunes dwindled as the Normans gained prominence at court. Driven into exile, Godwine regathered his forces and came back even stronger, only to discover that his second son Harold was destined to surpass him in renown and glory.</span></span></p>

I can picture it being made into a movie and featured alongside How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Runaway Bride. Totally different themes but same spirit and certainly as entertaining. I love how it took a common idea that many women have (the list) and turned it into a sweet parody of that idea.
