About
Ray was born in the hills of Pennsylvania on the cusp of the Great Depression and the Second World War. He is a retired Air Force Flight Engineer, Navy jet engine mechanic, businessman and restaurateur. He began his career as a writer in the early nineties and plans to retire as an author sometime in the far future. Seldom serious, he likes to add a touch of humor to his writing. After seeing more of the world than he wanted, or expected, he chose Pensacola to settle with his Russian born wife, Olga, and two cats, Archie and Moriz.

What happens when a king loses his prowess? The day Henry IV could finally declare he had vanquished his enemies, he threw it all away with an infamous deed. No English king had executed an archbishop before. And divine judgment was quick to follow. Many thought he was struck with leprosy—God's greatest punishment for sinners. From that point on, Henry's health was cursed and he fought doggedly on as his body continued to betray him—reducing this once great warrior to an invalid. Fortunately for England, his heir was ready and eager to take over. But Henry wasn't willing to relinquish what he had worked so hard to preserve. No one was going to take away his royal prerogative—not even Prince Hal. But Henry didn't count on Hal's dauntless nature, which threatened to tear the royal family apart.

One of my colleagues in this group, Ray Shoop, has published a great read titled Nu-Del Daughter of the Forest. I recently had the privilege of reading it and, as usual, Ray delivered a storyline that keeps your attention. I will probably never again hike in the forest without wondering if there are creatures living underneath the earth. But, I don't want to give away too much of the plot. This book definitely kept my attention and, much to my surprise, did not give me nightmares. I don't usually read this type of book but, since it was Ray's book, I made an exception. Then again, I will always wonder if there are creatures tunneling around and living underneath the ground just waiting to surface.....

It was difficult at first to get into but once I got past the first few pages, getting to understand what the characters were talking about, the author found his rhythm and the pages came alive for me. It was a cross between "Star Wars" and "The Hobbit" with a little Darryl Hannah in there too! I am anticipating the next book to finish where this one left off!!! I enjoyed the dramatic scene with the "Demon Fish" and also the bands of folks gathering in the Cave, could imagine the beginning of Father River. A good read for those who like fantasy.
