Description

<p><span><span>Harold Godwineson, the Last Anglo-Saxon King, owed everything to his father. Who was this Godwine, first Earl of Wessex and known as the Kingmaker? Was he an unscrupulous schemer, using King and Witan to gain power? Or was he the greatest of all Saxon Earls, protector of the English against the hated Normans? The answer depends on who you ask. He was befriended by the Danes, raised up by Canute the Great, given an Earldom and a wife from the highest Danish ranks. He sired nine children, among them four Earls, a Queen and a future King. Along with his power came a struggle to keep his enemies at bay, and Godwine's best efforts were brought down by the misdeeds of his eldest son Swegn. Although he became father-in-law to a reluctant Edward the Confessor, his fortunes dwindled as the Normans gained prominence at court. Driven into exile, Godwine regathered his forces and came back even stronger, only to discover that his second son Harold was destined to surpass him in renown and glory.</span></span></p>

Story Behind The Book

I couldn't stop imagining: what would it be like if I could time-travel to Jane Austen's world? What would I do? How would I live? Who would I meet? This thought developed into a book that brings the reader into my fantasy. I think it's a pretty fun, interesting, sexy one!

Georgina Young-Ellis is more than a gifted storyteller, she casts a spell that takes the reader back to 1820 Regency England. The sights, the sounds, the textures, and the smells embrace you. I had to shake myself to remember what century this is as I clicked the last magical page of The Time Baroness. <br /><br />The writing is exquisite. The story of a mother struggling to rescue her son in another century, in a culture where women were seen and not heard, is a very new spin on what we all hope is possible... Time Travel. Science fiction, mystery, a mother's love, and an almost eerie sense of Déjà vu. A spellbinding story from an amazing author. Highly Recommended. <br /><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VGVSJ6/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnk" style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#004b91;">The Time Baroness</a></div><div style="margin-left:.5em;"><br /></div><div style="margin-left:.5em;"><table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tbody><tr><td width="90%" style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><div style="margin-left:.5em;"><div style="margin-bottom:.5em;font-size:small;"><span style="vertical-align:middle;"><strong>Reminds me of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series only with Jane Austen's world</strong>, April 10, 2011</span></div><div style="margin-bottom:.5em;font-size:small;"><div><div style="float:left;">By </div><div style="float:left;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/AODXU511FK5W5/ref=cm_cr_pr_pdp" style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#004b91;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;">moonsoup<span class="swSprite s_chevron custPopRight" style="margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:3px;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;vertical-align:middle;background-image:url(http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/common/sprites/sprite-site-wide-2._V214202442_.png);width:11px;height:11px;background-position:-30px -40px;"></span></span></span></a> - <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/AODXU511FK5W5/ref=cm_cr_pr_auth_rev?ie=UTF8&amp;sort_by=MostRecentReview" style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#004b91;">See all my reviews</a></div></div><div style="clear:both;"></div></div><div class="tiny" style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:x-small;margin-bottom:.5em;"><strong><span class="h3color tiny" style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#e47911;font-size:x-small;">This review is from: </span>The Time Baroness (Kindle Edition)</strong></div>If you like Diana Gabaldon's &quot;Outlander&quot; series you will love this book. The author has created a fascinating world of time travel, with the future the past all intertwined. The historical setting and references really takes you to another time. I also enjoyed the sci- fi twist (more than I expected) and how it was wound up with the historical part. Great characters, and an engrossing plot full of twists and turns that takes you on a fascinating journey. A really enjoyable read. Perfect for summer and the beach.</div><a></a><br /><div style="margin-left:.5em;"><div style="margin-bottom:.5em;font-size:small;">2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.</div><div style="padding-top:10px;clear:both;width:566px;"><div style="clear:both;font-size:small;"></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:.5em;"><div style="margin-bottom:.5em;font-size:small;"><span style="margin-right:5px;"><span class="swSprite s_star_5_0" title="5.0 out of 5 stars" style="margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;vertical-align:middle;background-image:url(http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/common/sprites/sprite-site-wide-2._V214202442_.png);width:65px;height:13px;background-position:-30px 0px;"><span>5.0 out of 5 stars</span></span> </span><span style="vertical-align:middle;"><strong>Time Baroness took me away...</strong>, April 18, 2011 t</span><span style="font-size:x-small;"><strong><span class="h3color tiny" style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#e47911;font-size:x-small;">his review is from: </span>The Time Baroness (Kindle Edition)</strong></span></div>I'm not a big fan of science-fiction or any fiction for that matter. But after just a few pages, I was hooked on &quot; The Time Baroness&quot;. The way the author wove the super modern world of time travel with Jane Austen's world was very clever and had my attention throughout....so much so, that I actually missed my subway stop coming home from work one night because I was so engrossed with the story. Did I mention the steamy parts??? Well, let's just say that even in Victorian times, there were sexy booty calls! Read &quot; The Time Baroness&quot; for a true escape from life with aspects of real life that will make you wonder...what if?</div></td></tr></tbody></table></div></td></tr></tbody></table>
