This “chicklit with a twist” is a European road trip gone awry in three acts, dealing with young love, midlife crisis, and West meeting East in a way that puts a completely different spin on the American “War on Terror”.
While Henry Wilson hopes to travel through Europe by himself, he becomes entangled in his love for his childhood nemesis, June, which is rudely disturbed by a visit from Rita and Jill, Henry and June’s mothers, who are reeling with midlife crisis feelings.
As they travel from Amsterdam to Turkey, the story takes an unexpected turn for the worse, which makes this novella hard to put down. Henry Miller’s zest for life and wisdom run through this tale as a red string of fate and becomes the characters’ raison d’être in what Rita defines early on as “the freedom to be and the freedom to love.”
