Wife of a wealthy copper trader and community leader in Jerusalem, mother of John Mark, Miriam faces a society in which she must hide her strength and knowledge in the sanctuary of her upper room. In the world outside she fights not only her emotions but also the influence of a young Zealot who wants to claim her son for his cause against Rome. In Miriam’s determination to save John Mark from himself, will she drive her son away? And how can this new Rabbi open her eyes and restore her broken heart?

The Story Behind This Book

Miriam's Room is book 3 in the series. Each book is about a little known woman in the Bible. This particular series focuses on women who knew Jesus. I put myself in their place and wonder what it must have been like to live in that time. They had many of the same issues we do today. However, women in first century Judea and Galilee had few outlets for expression or freedom. I put Miriam in circumstances and crisis that she must face and then give her a one-on-one encounter with Jesus. My purpose is to show how he impacts her life and how she changes from that experience.

Miriam's Room is a fictional Bible story bases on the events in the Bible in the period just prior to Jeses's birth and after. The restrictions on women, the ways of Jewish society and the Roman presence gives a feeling of reality to what it would have been like to be a woman at that time and place. The story is written from Miriam's point of view sharing her feelings, grief and loss at her husband's death and how she felt about her son, John Mark. She shares her concerns, as a mother of a head strong teenage boy when he is expected to assume the responsibilities of an adult as a young teen because of the death of his father. The emotional appeal of Miriam's Room is timeless.

My thanks to Dianne G. Sagan and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for my signed copy of Miriam's Room. Included at the end of the book is a reference to all the names of characters with their meaning and Jewish words used plus a group of questions for book clubs of Bible study groups.
