Despite the tragedy-filled events of the book, I Am Going Where I Belong sends the message of hope, positive thinking, and overcoming adversity and hardship.

Ultimately, I Am Going Where I Belong demonstrates that one can overcome social hardships. An award-winning novelist, screenwriter and playwright, Hans Lindor uses his extenuating life experiences to advocate against violence—both in the book as well as public speaking stints in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Florida—whether it is in the shape of drugs or guns, and prove to the younger generation that racial barriers, poverty, or anything else for that matter should not keep you from achieving your dreams.

The Story Behind This Book

14-year-old Hans Leger is unfamiliar with the hunger, pain, and suffering that plagues the large majority of his island cohorts; however, he is soon introduced to the dark underbelly of life in the impoverished nation when he witnesses the living, breathing effects of poverty firsthand. Not long after his chance encounter, Hans' father is brutally gunned down during a violent coup d'etat, and he, his mother, and younger brother are forced to flee to Miami in search of peaceful refuge. Little does Hans know, though, upon his arrival in the States - the real challenges of his life are only just beginning. Though a work of fiction, I Am Going Where I Belong reads like a heartrending memoir. Compellingly crafted by author Hans Lindor, this moving coming-of-age tale is rife with more than its fair share of tragedy, heartbreak, and a seemingly unbroken string of cruel disappointments.
