Suzy Turner

Suzy Turner

About

Although Suzy is a Yorkshire lass at heart, she left her home town of Rotherham, UK, to move to Portugal with her family when she was ten.
The Algarve continues to be her home, where she lives with her childhood sweetheart and husband Michael, and their menagerie of cats and dogs.
Suzy's career began soon after completing her A levels when she was offered the position of trainee journalist for a local English newspaper. Her love of writing developed and a few years later she moved on to become assistant editor for the region's largest English language publisher. Since then she has also worked as the editor of one of the Algarve's most loved monthly lifestyle magazines. Early in 2010 however, Suzy began working as a freelance writer and author. She has since completed four novels for teens, Raven, December Moon, The Lost Soul and The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw (out November 2012), which are available from all good online retailers.

Story Behind The Book

The Raven Saga was inspired by a visit to western Canada in 2009. We sat having a picnic on a small beach in Powell River and we were surrounded by beauty - little islands off in the distance, the Pacific ocean lapping at our feet, tall trees everywhere, huge pieces of driftwood on the beach. It was so serene yet eerie and a little mysterious. It was there that my imagination started to run riot... and the idea for Raven began!

"As other reviewers have said, this is a real page-turner and if you like paranormal mysteries, this one is for you. While Lilly, the protagonist, is just 13 years old, it is actually fun to read at all ages, adults included. It takes you away to beautiful British Columbia and presents you with the mystery of this teenager who lost her parents in London and has to start a new life with her bizarre Canadian family. You soon discover she was born with a supernatural ability, but in the beginning the author cleverly keeps from you (and her protagonist) what this ability is all about...and you can't wait to find out and you keep turning the pages! I am not going to tell you what it is here, that wouldn't be fair. Read the book, it's a real surprise!

When you do find out, you are presented with the fantastic world that Suzy Turner has cleverly crafted, filled with evil witches, vampires, changelings - the whole range of wild supernatural beasts and beings. The plot thickens, you worry for Lilly's well-being, and can't stop reading till the last page. It's a good thing this is the first installment of a series and that more is coming!"
Author Clauda Nougat

"Raven is a spine tingling teen (YA) paranormal story with several different twists and turns. I was honestly pleased with all the unique elements within the story that was written by Suzy Turner. Her writing style, effort to entertain, and create a mind boggling adventure truly has paid off in this debut story.
Many times as I read, I was wowed. A lot of the elements or even simple little pieces Suzy wrote I never read or remember reading anything similar. Raven was a refreshing read.
The plot moved quickly and the characters were engaging even diabolical in some cases. I loved that it had good and bad characters. A paranormal story isn't good unless it has both and I loved the wicked side of the ones who caused the main character, Lilly, pain. Because without them Lilly's life would not have been as adventurous or intriguing.
For those who enjoy YA paranormals with love, mystery and a somewhat dark twisty plot then Raven should be on your to-read list!"

The fictional bookshelf book blogger

"Well, I realise this book is targeted at young adults but I was entranced. Simple yet beautiful storyline, truly believable characters and an easy to read style, meant I had to read it in as short a time as possible. Having never read anything like it before I was a little sceptical (I'm an action thriller sort of person really!) but i really enjoyed it and I cannot wait for the sequel! Superb stuff and the author should be proud as I see it's her first novel."
The Scuttler, Amazon UK

"Suzy Turner's debut novel, RAVEN, is written for teens and YA and is a fantasy read. Sadly, I'm a long way from being a teen these days, but I throughly enjoyed reading this book. If you are a YA reader who love fantasy, RAVEN will not disappoint, but you might think twice about walking into the forest alone!"
Author Pauline Barclay

"I didn't know what to expect from Suzy Turner's debut novel, but I am sincerely glad that I got to review this wonderful book! I was captured from the first page. Raven is the first book in the series and gives a very good introduction to the surroundings, characters and story itself. Even though it is the first book in series, then it still gives a standalone story. One more thing which is wonderful about this book - it can be read by middle grade, young adults and adults like me. It was an interesting book to read and also well written.
Suzy Turner's Raven is a book which should be a must read of 2011! I'm looking very much forward to read the next book of the series to come out. One of the best and warmest paranormal books I've read."
Inga Silberg, Book Blogger
