Description

Richard II found himself under siege not once, but twice in his minority. Crowned king at age ten, he was only fourteen when the Peasants' Revolt terrorized London. But he proved himself every bit the Plantagenet successor, facing Wat Tyler and the rebels when all seemed lost. Alas, his triumph was short-lived, and for the next ten years he struggled to assert himself against his uncles and increasingly hostile nobles. Just like in the days of his great-grandfather Edward II, vengeful magnates strove to separate him from his friends and advisors, and even threatened to depose him if he refused to do their bidding. The Lords Appellant, as they came to be known, purged the royal household with the help of the Merciless Parliament. They murdered his closest allies, leaving the King alone and defenseless. He would never forget his humiliation at the hands of his subjects. Richard's inability to protect his adherents would haunt him for the rest of his life, and he vowed that next time, retribution would be his.

Story Behind The Book

I set out to write a novel that could be exciting for teens to read and yet appropriate enough that parents would approve of it. ShadowLight originally began as a vampire novel. I finished it and didn't like what I had done. After some time pondering, I created the Night Walkers: spiritual warriors who battle each other with blazing swords and supernatural talents. From there, the story just took off. The characters came to life on their own - sometimes to my joy, sometimes tragically so. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. I hope that you enjoy it. I want you to fall in love (or hate) with the characters and story. Ideally I hope that this touches your life and makes you think about the influence you can have on others. I'd love to hear from you and what you thought about it. Be sure to drop me an email, tweet, or FB message. -Matthew

5 star Amazon Review from Harpmama
I must say I really loved reading ShadowLight! The author did an excellent job keeping my attention! He weaves his characters and the story line in and out and keeps you guessing. I got so aggravated once because I was in a really intense part and had to put it down. I stayed up that night until about 2 in the morning just so I could figure out what happened. I really love that it is a clean read also. There is nothing objectionable in this book. The author does a very good job of the good guys and the bad guys battling it out. This book makes you want to laugh and cry and get mad and happy and... Well, you get my point! If you need a good book to read, I highly recommend ShadowLight! Can't wait for the sequel!!!

5 start Amazon review from phughey:
Ask yourself what makes a book a "good read". You know the kind I'm referring to. A truly good book will cause you to lose sleep. It occupies much of your thought life while engaged in things that take you away from the book. You understand where I'm coming from. A good book will keep you wondering what is going to happen next, who is it going to happen to? Who will win, who will lose, who will live and who will die? A "good read" will elicit emotions when things good or bad happen to the characters, some of whom you've grown to love, while others you loathe because of their despicable nature. Mr. Morgan succeeds in bringing all of these characteristics to this novel. He has created a whole new world within our world. A world of superhumans with very real vulnerabilities. The story entwines a strong moral ethic with suspense and adventure. He even manages to include just the right amount of romance. The one negative about this book is that we have to wait for the sequel. Congratulations to Mr. Morgan on his first full length novel.
