He takes the beautiful Nasith, of the Ferran clan, hostage to keep the assassins at bay, but her presence endangers him more. A sorcerer forces Caleath to aid the Council of Mages when he discovers Caleath carries vital knowledge that could save the Sharyac people from the invading Tarack, a species of giant ants.

<span style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;line-height:normal;">This is one of the best books I have read in a long while!</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;line-height:normal;">The main character "Caleath" is awesome, a total badass who is often also the slightly reluctant good-guy.</span><br /><span style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;line-height:normal;">The story takes place in a fantasy world that doesn't over-indulge in complicated names or histories but it's also a sci-fi that you don't have to be a nerd to understand...But don't think for a second that it's too tame or "young reader" . It's full of grimy fighting, power-hungry folks with twisted and dubious motives and a hero who is pushed to the brink of physical endurance and sanity. Think a tech-savvy-futuristic-dude-who-can -fight-like-Spartacus, stranded in a magical world.</span><div><span style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;line-height:normal;"><br /></span><div><span style="font-family:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;line-height:normal;"> The result?
