I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, where I live now (by some whimsical act of the Fates), but I grew up in Argentina, where my parents worked for 40 years, from the time I was a toddler until I returned to the US for college. My family has profound roots in the US (the Bedfords go back to the early 18th century and moreover have Native American connections)so I feel profoundly American, but also equally Argentine. In today's world, that's a plus.
After a varied career in language teaching in the US and Brazil, I have spent the last 17 years on the faculty of TCU teaching Spanish. It is a job I love and TCU is a wonderful school.
My Angela series came to me as three books on a lunch break during a Saturday workshop on getting published. I jotted down character sketches, locale, a story arc for all three books and a brief outline for each, all before time to return for the afternoon session. What can I say? Clearly it is a story begging to be told.
The first book, Angela 1: Starting Over (search for it by title) introduces the characters. The second book is tentatively scheduled to appear in the Fall of 2013.
