About

Author Bio:

I live in Upwey, a very leafy suburb of outer Melbourne. I can hear most Melbournians say, ‘where?’ Think Puffing Billy, the hills and inexcusably steep driveways and you're there. We have a house with room for the kids to play in the backyard, the cat to sleep wherever and the husband to have his back shed.

Story Behind The Book

Abbey Miller and her friend Jennifer have been picked from a live audience to take part in reality television show Makeover Miracle. This is Abbey’s worst nightmare, and brings back deep memories of being teased and the brunt of cruel jokes. The last thing Abbey wants is her soul to be laid bare for the whole of Australia to see, but being the true friend she is, she agrees to help Jennifer, who desperately wants to change her life. Quinn Campbell, the producer of Makeover Miracle can see Abbey crumbling live on stage, and after she vomits into a wastepaper basket, goes to her aid, not expecting see such a sad, haunted look in her eyes. There’s something about Abbey that reaches out to him. The look in her eyes brings back long buried memories of his sister and his failure as a brother to help her. This is a story about one woman’s journey through harsh emotional abuses and the man who is able to make her believe in herself. Set against the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, Makeover Miracle is a story about forgiveness, understanding, personal growth and, of course, falling in love with that one special person.

Reviews

bbey and her friend have been picked to be on a relative TV show called Makeover Miracle. Abbey is reluctant to take part in the show, because when she was younger she was bullied and teased because of her looks. But, Abbey wants to support her friend, so she agrees to be on the show. Quinn, a produce on the show discovers Abbey's insecurities and discomforts and he quickly helps her. The characters were well developed. I love the strength and focus on Abbey and Jennifer's friendship. Abbey and Quinn also developed a strong relationship as well. I was routing for all the characters from the beginning. I also loved that despite the makeover and tv aspect of the show, looks didn't matter in the end. Instead, character development was the main focus. I highly recommend this read.

I love looking behind the scenes. Take me to a circus and I'll want to see what's happening behind the big tent rather than in the ring! So Makeover Miracle really worked for me with its setting in the world of reality TV.

Choosing a setting like a makeover program for a book could come across as gimmicky, but Charmaine Ross handles it well. Abbey's emotional journey is strongly written and believable. That grounds the book. In fact, it makes the structure of the TV makeover program part of the push that drives Abbey into seeing herself with new eyes.

Quinn is an interesting hero. He's three dimensional, not just Abbey's "reward" for risking love. He has his own issues and he deals with them.

And the celebration of friendship in the story is fantastic!

More at:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17367893-makeover-miracle
