About

John J. Davis is the author of the Granger Spy Novel series, including Blood Line and the soon to be published sequel, Bloody Truth, available Spring 2015.

Davis grew up in the Southeastern US and after university traveled extensively in North America during his career as a regional sales rep and independent broker for leaders in the transportation, shipping and pharma industries. His years sitting in lobbies and airports honed his skill for human observation and fed his talent for writing fast-paced, character-driven stories.

His inspiration for the Granger family-of-spies comes from the people he has known and his family roots in the Carolinas—the extraordinarily strong and gentle women and men, whose lives are defined by the love, trust and respect for family. Currently at work on the third Granger Spy Novel and a screenplay, Davis lives near Atlanta with his wife, daughter and two dogs.

Description

The once-great city of Gastar stands in ruins following centuries of war by undead monsters driven by an evil temple.  Victory cost the people of the knowledge to defeat another enemy, Zermon, ruler of hell, who seeks to extend his realm by annihilation of the few people left.  With the help of a sympathetic ancient dragon, volunteer fighters from the past war, and the arrival of a teen assassin named Shevata who is known to Zermon, they combine efforts for the existence of the people of Gastar.

Story Behind The Book

What was your inspiration for writing Blood Line? For inspiration, some have to look far afield, but I only had to look at my family. We're a cornucopia of personality disorders ranging from the mildly mentally distraught to the supreme narcissist. We're dysfunctional, and some of us divorced multiple times over, but we share a common bond—our past. It's in that history, coupled with a pinch of the present, that I find my inspiration. To be more specific, my wife and her immeasurable talents, proves beyond a shadow of doubt that women should rule the world. My daughter, thankfully, is her mother’s heir apparent, and is blessed with many of the same talents and gifts as her female forebears. Then there are the grandmothers on each side of the family. Each effortlessly led the way by succeeding in academics, and in one case as a professional entertainer. Yes, she was in the USO. As for the men, well, I'll begin and end with the two mentioned in the book. My grandfather was a world-class golfer and has a place in the both the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. His spirit lives on in the many memories I carry with me daily. As for Uncle John, he was a full-blooded Indian married to my grandfather’s sister. I remember him being a sweet man, though his size might lead one to think otherwise. That’s been my inspiration, the people I knew best.
