Leslie William Gates was born in Aylesbury, England in 1949. In 1972 he graduated from Keble College, Oxford University with an Honours degree in Mathematics. The following year he completed a Post-graduate Certificate in Education at Exeter University.

Les has toured the world extensively and has spent more than twelve years in the Solomon Islands and nine years in New Zealand.

For most of his working life Les has been a High School teacher of mathematics in New Zealand, England and the Solomon Islands. In 1998, he was appointed Principal of King George VI National Secondary School, Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Les married Sarah in 1986. They have three children and three grandchildren.

Les is now living in New Zealand and is pursuing a new career as an author and freelance writer/editor. His fantasy novel, 'Windows on Our World, Part 1: Hope' is written under the pen name of Les Bill Gates.

Story Behind The Book

The death of Queen Sofee and the rebirth of The One Prophet, Quexitoxeri, provide the catalyst for the unmaking of the old man Sacumed and the mule Faithful, releasing the ancient staffs Umed and Fulsac and restoring Faith to the Land. Squire had returned to the Land; and Sohan, who once again sat as the One Prophet, Quexitoxeri, in Thymas Convent, used her aura to assist the wizard twins in casting the spell to unmake the mule Faithful and the old man Sacumed, in restoring Faith to the Land, and releasing the ancient staffs Umed and Fulsac to be used once again in reestablishing good.
