When Jessica Bryant pesters her wealthy parents to allow her to have a dog as a pet, the answer is a resounding "No"; but they soon come to regret their decision when thier home is broken into one evening whilst they are out and their daughter kidnapped and held for ransom. The kidnappers, in the form of four seedy and incompetent characters wearing Disneyland-type masks, take her hostage and keep her incarcerated in a place from which there appears to be no escape. However, they reckon without the resourcefulness of our heroine, and the courage of a wonderful stray dog who comes to her aid and whom she names 'Murdo'. And so begins an exciting and humurous accounting of the couples' adventures together as they consistently foil and outwit the abductors whilst on the run together.
This is a lovely story of the friendship between a girl and a dog, bringing out themes of responsibility, camaraderie, redemption, salvation and self-sacrifice. It includes some wonderful dialogue sequences as Jessica teaches her new four-legged friend how to communicate with her, with additional delightful conversations between the animals when a rabbit and a sparrow join forces with them in an effort to outwit the kidnappers and restore Jessica safely back to her parents' home.

I want people to give themselves permission to be happy.” “Happiness is freedom,” says Hedley, “a mindset that is free from fear, self-pity and negative thinking. It is an energy that motivates you to develop your creativity. Those who are truly happy know their lives count for something. They are proactive, creating their world, achieving their dreams, instead of waiting for things to happen.” Strategies for Happiness is packed with ideas, tips outlining the options available enabling your to lead a delicious life. Even if you already consider yourself a happy person, Donna Hedley says that there is always room for improvement. Jude Herman of London Ontario said about the author and the book, "I feel deeply privileged to have benefited from Strategies for Happiness. The chapter called “The Jigsaw Puzzle” resonated with me to such an extent that after I finished reading it, I immediately took the action Donna suggested and consequently, changed my life that very day.” The book will inspire anyone who wants to develop, grow and become the best they can be. It shows that Happiness is a choice, not just something that happens by chance. Everyone has a Happiness Potential, but so often they are not choosing to live up to that potential.
“I had read other 'self-help' books but had not seen or heard of a book that encompassed every aspect of my emotional being as this one does.
Not only was I receiving amazing advice, I was getting to know Donna, the person. I feel deeply privileged to have benefited from her teachings. The chapter 'The Jigsaw Puzzle' resonated with me to such an extent that after I finished reading it, I immediately took the action Donna had suggested and my life changed that day.”
~ Jude Herman – London Ontario Canada ~
