About

Even though I received my degree in Illustration, it wasn't until I became an elementary art teacher that I found my way back to illustration. I needed a book to help teach my children about the different types of lines used in art, and when I came up short, I decided to write my own story. The result was the story of Stew, a horizontal line who finds that he doesn't have to lie flat. Through that book, I have made connections through conferences and book fairs that have led to more work in illustration. Stay tuned for more books to come! Be sure to "Like" my page to stay up to date, and visit my website at www.kinsymcvay.com

Story Behind The Book

I am always looking for books to use in my elementary art room, but when I began searching for one dealing with the Art Element of Line, I couldn't really find what I needed. So I decided to give writing my own a shot. As I began writing my book, I was focused on incorporating the various types of lines that I wanted to show to my students. As I continued working on it, though, I realized that I needed to include some life lessons that I felt all children should know. The first is that being creative and trying new things should be fun (and even difficult at times). The second is that children should just be happy being themselves. Everything turned out better than I expected. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! -Kinsy

I so appreciate books that encourage a child's creativity, imagination, and ability to think outside the box, and books that allow a child to take a simple idea and run with it.

Our 4 and 5 year old children love this book, and we've done our own activities using the delightful idea of one line becoming something else or discovering what it can do. You could use a pipe cleaner, string, or just a pencil and paper and really have fun with the concept of the book.

This book comes with our highest recommendation!!! It's a favorite for our children, and a favorite for US as well!
