Reviews

"..... an interesting book focusing on the ideas of need versus want, what is self-fulfillment and exploring our motivations.....I suspect it is one of those books that you can turn to again and again and find different things, dependent upon your mood." - Kindle Book Review

"Bittersweet and seemingly simple, this story embodies the ambivalence the author feels about an average, middle-class existence - possibly mundane, yes, but reassuring in its certainties and not without its own joys." - ilovebooks.com

"…. a beautifully illustrated and thought-provoking modern-day allegory suitable for older children and grown-ups alike." - Rated 5 stars by IndieReader

Book

For all ages, Middling Industries offer its most acclaimed illustrated series “Haee and the Other Middlings”, taking a meaningful jab at middle class poignancy of the 21st century. Created by R.S. Vern, this series provides a delightful read at what it means to be functioning, breathing, and living as we are today. Armed with curiosity and a thirst to seek out the extraordinary, Haee becomes known as the non-attached cat – one who rejects the discipline of the home and yet, desires some form of security.

“HAEE is a beautifully illustrated and thought-provoking modern-day allegory suitable for older children and grown-ups alike.” – Maya Fleischmann, IndieReader “This is an interesting book, focusing on the ideas of need versus want, what is self-fulfillment and exploring our motivations…..I suspect it is one of those books that you can turn to again and again and find different things, dependent upon your mood.” – Sarah Burns, The Kindle Book Review “…the book resonates strongly with adults. As children, they are allowed to roam free and explore the world. As grown-ups, they must abide to stringent schedules and deadlines, while constantly running the risk of feeling mechanical. Haee’s excursions will not only capture the imagination of children, but will also get a laugh out of adults as they anticipate the release of the next book in the Haee series.” – US Review of Books

About the author

R.S. Vern is the creator of book trilogy series: Haee and the Other Middlings. The 1st part of this series won the International IndieReader Discovery Award in 2013.

An oddly conflicted soul, she finds herself constantly torn between the challenges of saving the world and the realities of making a living. She calls herself a middling – urbanised, uneased, and most of the time, in a flux.

Haee is a real cat living in her home. Instead of writing as herself, she feels that it is less brutal seeing life through the eyes of a cat.

R.S. Vern holds a B.A. in English Literature, an M.A. in Communications, and a G.D. in Applied Positive Psychology.
