Born to deeply religious minded parents in 1959 at Jammu, India, Dr. Rajeev Mohan Kaushik had his initial schooling at Jammu. He did his MBBS from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India and MD (Medicine) from the Government Medical College, Jammu. He is a Professor of Medicine at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun, India. He has many publications in reputed medical journals and has been a faculty in several international medical congresses. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Indian College of Physicians for his significant contribution towards promoting a rational combination of alternative therapies with modern medical treatment.

A Sahaja yoga initiate, Dr. Kaushik's involvement in regular meditative practices gave him an insight into the esoteric realms of life and inspired him to examine all types of alternative therapies, particularly those involving yoga and spiritual practices. His first book The Midnight Awakening was based on his experiences after the awakening of the Kundalini power in him. His second book Snippets from the Subconscious is a compilation of his experiences with hypnosis.
