LynneE Mitchell

I was born in a small country town in Western Australia.  I still live and work in this same town and it is from here that I am based.  My story can be described as a tale of mystery which is set in a familiar place.  From this familiar place, the scene changes as a journey takes place.  My central character is a young, Australian nurse who sets out to find the meaning of strange words that she hears from the mouth of a dying Benedictine monk.  My aim in writing this story has been to capture the idea of change and how sometimes a change takes place within individuals due to no fault of themselves.  The essence of time and change are intermingled throughout the story and I guess that this becomes more important to a reader who themselves have lived long enough to be past 'the bloom of youth'.  Ido hope this will not be my only contribution to writing as I do get a buzz from seeing my name on a book for sale.  While I have not been a ranging success with this story, I believe it is only the beginning and the experience I have gained from jumping in and writing a book has been able to enrich my life and I can only improve from my mistakes.

I do hope you are able to find something entertaining in my story and please keep a look out for my future writings.

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I live in a small country town on the coast of Western Australia.  I love to read and enjoy writing.  I guess I could be described as an ‘information junkie’ as I love to be kept updated on things that are happening in the world.  I also love to travel and have made my writing the means for me to satisfy my desire to travel.

2. Describe your book 'Journey for Jen' and "Blossoms of Spirit" Revised Edition in 30 words or less.

“Journey for Jen” and “Blossoms of Spirit” are really two stories that I have decided to publish in the one edition.  It tells the story of a search for the meaning of mystery words by a young Australian nurse.  The story takes a number of years and Jen finds herself a long way from home and living a life very much removed from the one she knew.  Along the way, Jen undergoes change and sees life unfolding as she never would have planned.
Both stories are set in locations around the world that I would love to travel to in the future.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The hardest part of writing the book was keeping the characters engaged, without making the story too long and turning the characters into boring representatives of life that we experience on a daily basis.  Keeping focused was a bit of a problem as I was studying at university during a lot of the writing period and I used the writing time as relaxation from intense study.  I do believe this is the story I had to tell as I always wanted to have something I wrote published.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

I love information that is real, so I guess the books that have influenced me have been non-fiction books.  I love reading biographies and stories involving real people.  I also enjoy reading classics and will read these time and time again.  I do love to know facts, and so have tried to incorporate facts about settings and places in my books.  I like to stick as close as possible to truth to enable the stories to become viewed as probable.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

To market my book I have relied extensively on social media.  I prefer Twitter and constantly use this platform to market my book.  I have also set up webpages and blogs to enable readers to seek out information about my writing.  I have listed on a number of online bookstores as well as running advertisements on Google.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

When I am not writing I love to explore the outdoors.  I like to take photographs and will spend my time shooting beach scenes or seascapes.  I love to watch a number of sports, both live and on television.  I am still studying so I have to keep my writing balanced with my academic requirements.  I find that writing fiction is a means of relaxation for me.

7. What are you working on next?

I am working on another mystery that revolves around a small time girl who makes it big and then finds that she doesn’t really have all the answers to questions about herself and her family.  It is a tale of small town values versus big city lifestyle.
