Julie Grasso

With a background in paediatric nursing, Julie Anne Grasso spent many years literally wrapping children in cotton wool. Every day she witnessed great courage and resilience from the tiny people she cared for, which inspired her to write stories about a little girl elf just like them. She lives in Melbourne Australia with her husband Danny and their little elf Giselle.

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am an Australian, a cupcake enthusiast, a Whovian and a writer of books for kids aged 8-12.

2. Describe your book Escape From The Forbidden Planet (Adventures Of Caramel Cardamom #1)
The first in an exciting middle grade science fiction trilogy, with telepathic elves, evil clones, an intergalactic rescue and of course, cupcakes….

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Proof reading. It is tedious, and everyone has an opinion as to how things should be written. In the end, you have to stick with a style and be consistent.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?
Anne McCaffrey’s The Rowan got me interested in science fiction and fantasy as a young adult.  I have been hooked ever since.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?
I connect with bloggers to gain reviews, I have joined an author community and engage my fellow authors in helping me to promote my books, and I have gained a distributor to help me access areas like libraries and schools in Australia.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?
Caring for my wonderful family, drinking chai tea and dreaming of my next novel….

7. What are you working on next?
My next book is the second in my Frankie Dupont Mystery series. It will be entitled, “Frankie Dupont And The Science Fare Sabotage” and it will be available end of March 2015.
