Interview

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Karina Halle. I’m born and bred in Vancouver, BC and though I’ve lived all over the world, I have no problems settling down in this beautiful city and calling it home. I dabbled in many things over the years ( music journalism, blogging, screenwriting, marketing, film studies, advertising) until the urge to write novels became too big to ignore. At the moment I’m walking the fine line between writing my Experiment in Terror series and figuring out the key to success in this overcrowded publishing world.

Describe your book ‘Darkhouse’ in 30 words or less.

Darkhouse introduces us to 20-something Perry Palomino, her tumultuous relationship with her partner Dex Foray, and  the paranormal world they encounter as ghost-hunters.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Knowing I’d have to re-write it, ha ha.

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

As a book, I’d have to say Jane Eyre. That book was a great inspiration for my series and for Perry and Dex (strangely enough). Otherwise the authors that influence me are Christopher Pike and Stephen King, among others.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

Everything you can think of. It’s a fathomless mystery, trying to figure out how to garner success when you only have yourself to rely on. But I do what I can. Giveaways, contacting book reviewers, doing radio, contacting book suppliers, reaching out on social media, writing guest posts, creating book trailers – these are just some of the things I do to market my Experiment in Terror series.

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

Read. Market and promote my books. Drink wine. Listen to music. Travel. Waste time on the internet. Take fun and interesting classes. Think about going to the gym.

What are you working on next?

I’m using NaNoWriMo as an excuse to start writing Book #5 in the EIT series. I will also complete an EIT short story I started a month ago entitled The Benson. It’s a good introduction to the characters and I plan to release it for free sometime this month.
