About

Khafra K Om-Ra-Seti has worked as a professional stockbroker and institutional trader for the Charles Schwab Corporation; for six years he was a lead instructor for the BA Completion Program at New College of California; and is currently an active investor in real estate and the stock market. As a writer and publisher for nearly two decades and a self-proclaimed futurist, Khafra has become more energetically focused in the development of Information Age technologies and the clean energy revolution that are destined to completely transform our way of life in the 21st Century. He is also very concerned that the entire world is moving too slow to declare the end of the AGE OF OIL. His keen interest in computer technology and related futuristic issues evolves from his work with mainframe computers that began in the latter 1970s and early 1980s. He obtained his education at San Francisco State University, earning BA and MBA degrees in finance. In this current book, Khafra expands on his interdisciplinary knowledge and economic ideas to bring about a Grand Convergence theory of the collapse and revision of the global economy. He also presents some of his visionary ideas concerning the economic recovery in the 21st Century and beyond.

Description

Emerging from the long shadow cast by his formidable father, Harold Godwineson showed himself to be a worthy successor to the Earldom of Wessex. In the following twelve years, he became the King's most trusted advisor, practically taking the reins of government into his own hands. And on Edward the Confessor's death, Harold Godwineson mounted the throne—the first king of England not of royal blood. Yet Harold was only a man, and his rise in fortune was not blameless. Like any person aspiring to power, he made choices he wasn't particularly proud of. Unfortunately, those closest to him sometimes paid the price of his fame.

This is a story of Godwine's family as told from the viewpoint of Harold and his younger brothers. Queen Editha, known for her Vita Ædwardi Regis, originally commissioned a work to memorialize the deeds of her family, but after the Conquest historians tell us she abandoned this project and concentrated on her husband, the less dangerous subject. In THE SONS OF GODWINE and FATAL RIVALRY, I am telling the story as it might have survived had she collected and passed on the memoirs of her tragic brothers.

This book is part two of The Last Great Saxon Earls series. Book one, GODWINE KINGMAKER, depicted the rise and fall of the first Earl of Wessex who came to power under Canute and rose to preeminence at the beginning of Edward the Confessor's reign. Unfortunately, Godwine's misguided efforts to champion his eldest son Swegn recoiled on the whole family, contributing to their outlawry and Queen Editha's disgrace. Their exile only lasted one year and they returned victorious to London, though it was obvious that Harold's career was just beginning as his father's journey was coming to an end.

Harold's siblings were all overshadowed by their famous brother; in their memoirs we see remarks tinged sometimes with admiration, sometimes with skepticism, and in Tostig's case, with jealousy. We see a Harold who is ambitious, self-assured, sometimes egocentric, imperfect, yet heroic. His own story is all about Harold, but his brothers see things a little differently. Throughout, their observations are purely subjective, and witnessing events through their eyes gives us an insider’s perspective.

Harold was his mother's favorite, confident enough to rise above petty sibling rivalry but Tostig, next in line, was not so lucky. Harold would have been surprised by Tostig's vindictiveness, if he had ever given his brother a second thought. And that was the problem. Tostig's love/hate relationship with Harold would eventually destroy everything they worked for, leaving the country open to foreign conquest. This subplot comes to a crisis in book three of the series, FATAL RIVALRY.

Story Behind The Book

This book represents an extraordinary journey for me, one that extends over a period of 25 years. It started in 1987, the year that I had completed my MBA degree. It was the Crash of 1987 that woke me up and gave me my mission to be a writer and thinker in this field. I had received my graduate degree in the field of business and did not know that we had been in an extraordinary boom period for five years. I was aware of what was happening in Japan, but I really didn't understand the full dynamics of their boom period. After observing several economic boom and bust cycles and researching several more, I have reached an understanding and appreciation of the power and massive influence of these events.

Reviews

The foundation of the well-organized and insightful work is the author's thesis that we are living the Age of the Grand Convergence. He poses huge global questions that most of the mass media is running from. Panic, Fear and Chaos are the main focus of their reporting regarding global economic issues, Mr. Om-Ra-Seti starts by detailing that, yes, we are facing an era of global economic change further complicated by a laundry list of other global issues. But then he moves on to also detail how we can not only survive but grow through this time of upheaval in every area of our lives. Starting with an in-depth analysis of economic boom & bust cycles from the 1920's & 30's he brings the reader all the way up to the present. Each cycle is explained with a thorough presentation of data and analyses that are usually reserved for the elite economists and their supporters.
