The absorbing, definitive account of CrossFit's origins, its explosive grassroots growth, and its emergence as a global phenomenon.

One of the most illuminating books ever on a sports subculture, Learning to Breathe Fire combines vivid sports writing with a thoughtful meditation on what it means to be human. In the book, veteran journalist J.C. Herz explains the science of maximum effort, why the modern gym fails an obese society, and the psychic rewards of ending up on the floor feeling as though you're about to die.

The story traces CrossFit’s rise, from a single underground gym in Santa Cruz to its adoption as the workout of choice for elite special forces, firefighters and cops, to its popularity as the go-to fitness routine for regular Joes and Janes. Especially riveting is Herz’s description of The CrossFit Games, which begin as an informal throw-down on a California ranch and evolve into a televised global proving ground for the fittest men and women on Earth, as well as hundreds of thousands of lesser mortals.

In her portrayal of the sport's star athletes, its passionate coaches and its “chief armorer,” Rogue Fitness, Herz powerfully evokes the uniqueness of a fitness culture that cultivates primal fierceness in average people. And in the shared ordeal of an all-consuming workout, she unearths the ritual intensity that's been with us since humans invented sports, showing us how, on a deep level, we're all tribal hunters and first responders, waiting for the signal to go all-out.

I wanted to provide an easy read that women could read on the go. A page turner that would get them emotionally connected to the main character. My goal is present real life situations that we can identify with in real life. My novels will make good reads for women groups, book clubs, or just a bunch of friends wanting to get together to discuss a good book. The topics discussed are guaranteed to spark conversation amongst the readers.
McKenzie Johnson's rewarding career has kept her busy far too long. When she realizes she doesn't have a social life, she entrusts her two best friends to take her out and show her a good time. From across the dance floor, a pair of sexy eyes belonging to a fine man is mesmerized by her sexy body. It isn't long before McKenzie and Milton Williams are making plans to become one, but Milton discovers events from McKenzie's past that may steer their relationship on a different course.

L'Mignon's debut novel, SKELETONS IN HER CLOSET paints a vivid picture of the hurt and shame a person feels when belittled by a loved one because of their past. In her novel, she journeys back to McKenzie's past, which is a benefit, because it allows the reader to get a better understanding of McKenzie's character. The best friends' characters are witty and sharp-tongued, and the plot slowly takes off in another direction. As I continued to read this fast-paced, plausible story, the plot became predictable, but the ending left me surprised.

Reviewed by Sharon Lewis
of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

SKELETONS IN HER CLOSET by author L'Mignon is a fast pace and easy read. The cover of the book fits perfectly to what the story tells and unfolds. Once you start reading this book, you will have a hard time putting it down. The story line flows so fluently.
Author L'Mignon has done a wonderful job with her first novel. The characters and story line are well developed in SKELETONS IN HER CLOSET. This book will make the readers think and question .......Can you handle the truth whether it is in the past or present...Can you continue to love someone once you find out something about their past....Can you accept it....or does it really matter now. The author displays that communication and trust is very important in a relationship. I would recommend this book to everyone whether they are in a relationship or not. This book would be a great book club discussion.
