FROM THE AUTHOR:

Many people askhow I came to write SCENT OF TRIUMPH. I’ve been a writer from an early age, and for this novel I drew on myentrepreneurial experience in the perfume industry and my mother’s andgrandmother’s recollections of life in America during World War II.

So many of us haveour own stories of resilience, of fighting for our principles, or for ourfamilies—I wanted to write a story that women and men of any age orcircumstance could relate to, a story that would uplift the spirit.

I hopeeveryone enjoys the history, the diversity of the cast, and the story ofDanielle Bretancourt. And I'm happy to add that there is another novel inprogress.

The Story Behind This Book

SCENT OF TRIUMPH was inspired by my love of perfumery and history. In writing, I drew upon my own family history and my mother's memories of World War II, imagining a young entrepreneur whose talent, determination, and fearlessness catapult her to the pinnacle of success, despite mounting personal tragedies and the elusiveness of love. So many of us have our own stories of resilience, of fighting for our principles, or for our families—I wanted to write a story that women and men of any age or circumstance could relate to, a story that would uplift the spirit.

Praise and Reviews

"SCENT OF TRIUMPH [is a] World War II epic."
- Los Angeles Times

"SCENT OF TRIUMPH offers action, suspense and romance as it follows its intrepid heroine through the turbulent years of World War II, from the depths of tragedy to the heights of success. Fragrance lovers will enjoy the skillful way in which scent is woven into the story...and how the heroine's experiences are filtered through her highly refined sense of smell."
- Nancy Arnott, A&E Television Networks

"Filled with love, loss, struggle, triumph. Moran writes in such a way that you will feel as if you were transported back to the era. Her characters are well developed. Very unique, an enjoyable read."
- Rebecca's Reads Review

"Jan Moran is the new queen of the epic romance."
- USA Today Bestselling Author Rebecca Forster, Author of Expert Witness

"I absolutely loved this story!"
- Carrie, a reader from Goodreads

"SCENT OF TRIUMPH is a rich tapestry that weaves fragrance into an already compelling story of love and perseverance during WWII. Jan's skillful writing, combined with her wealth of olfactory knowledge, makes this a great read for all, but especially the perfume enthusiast."
- Karen Adams, Sniffapalooza

"Though romance figures importantly in [SCENT OF TRIUMPH], Danielle's professional life is most appealing, profiting from perfume expert Moran's (Fabulous Fragrances, 1994, etc.) authentic experience...The casual demeanor with which Danielle always notices scents in her environment helps establish her character and professional credibility in a charming way...Danielle makes for a strong, unusual heroine who doesn't always make wise decisions, although her resilience, style and knowledge remain admirable.... [A] historical fiction carried by a complex, resourceful heroine with a nose for business."
