Chronic illness can strike anyone at any time. But long illnesses don’t just affect one person, they affect the whole family. Author Chris Tatevosian was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when he was a young man. Without realizing it, his "poor me" attitude, and difficulties with coping with the disease cost him what he felt was a marriage made in heaven. Could he have done something differently?

Tatevosian shares with readers many of the self-destructive, relationship-busting behaviors to avoid as well as the helpful, healing ones to implement. He gives a firsthand account of multiple sclerosis, including the drugs and treatments which have been particularly beneficial for him. Stressing compassion and understanding for other family members, Tatevosian also asserts that his deep faith helped him through rocky times.

By sharing his experiences, Tatevosian gives readers the awareness, knowledge and understanding they need to deal more positively with the emotional and physical stresses put on a relationship interrupted by chronic illness or disability. Warmly written and bravely told, this is a perfect book for patients, caregivers, or anyone looking to heal a relationship.

"A real person, speaking right from the heart, and it touched my heart."

--Rick Mansfield, Caring Coordinator, The First Congregational Church of Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

I am the spouse of a man living with MS. This book opened my eyes to a lot of feelings my husband deals with but also helped me deal with emotions I have as well. Before reading this book I knew that we have a strong marriage. I now realize how fragile that can be when a chronic illness lives with you day in and day out. The author has opened my eyes to many pitfalls that can be avoided by good communication and paying attention to your partner's perspective.
I am thankful that the author was willing to share his journey in order to help others. Definitely a must read.

Living with Multiple Sclerosis,

This review is from: Life Interrupted: It's Not All About Me (Paperback)
This first-hand account of author Chris Tatevosian's battle with multiple sclerosis shines for its honesty, courage and insightful message. He details the progression of the disease from age eighteen to the present as well as describing the effect his disease had on his marriage.

The author's understanding of how a chronic disease of any kind has consequences for the caregiver, in this case his wife Rachel, rings true for anyone living in similar circumstances. It's a very helpful book to gain insight into how destructive negative "poor me" behavior can be for both the person harboring resentments as well as for those living nearby.

I was very moved by the highly personal and sincere description of the author's disease and relationship difficulties. Multiple sclerosis is a dreadful disease and as a reader you feel the emotional and physical effects that occur as the disease progresses. It is a very heartfelt book that touched me on many levels. I especially liked the fact that the author took responsibility for his own actions. I think that this is the message that permeates the book. You can't control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude about it.

This is an excellent book about chronic disease and those who are affected by it.

Life Interrupted , a truthful, insightful, story everyone should read., September 12, 2007
This review is from: Life Interrupted: It's Not All About Me (Paperback)
Life Interrupted is a great book to help readers understand what it is like to live and love with a disability. The author is truthful about his struggles within a relationship that didn't work, and he desperately wants the reader to understand how not to make the same mistakes. This book is a must have for anyone who knows of someone with a disability. It is an extremely helpful guide for others living with MS and those that love them. I highly recommend Life Interrupted to anyone who is interested in a heartfelt, true story. It will certainly be an inspiration to all, and is as funny as it is truthful. It is an easy read, and can be easily shared with others. It is quite refreshing to read the author's point of view, along with his desires to helping the needs of others.

Absolutely Enlightening!!,

This review is from: Life Interrupted: It's Not All About Me (Paperback)
"Life Interrupted, it's not all about me" is without a doubt the best book I have ever read that depicts the challenges of a persons first reaction to hearing the news they are no longer going to be able to do the things they love doing and have done all their lives....run, jump, walk, swim, ride a bike, drive, see, write, feel, and enjoy life as others do. That is like a slap in the face to anyone, but Chris puts his experience down that path in a manner that everyone can relate, disabled or not.

This book is not just for those who may be afflicted with a debilitating disease, but for anyone who has struggled in a relationship because of the "normal" issues like, stress, loss of a job, kids, lack of communication, anger, and depression. This is not a "How To" type book, but more along the lines of a "How Not To" writes Chris, and he is correct.

When reading this book, I found each page something so insightful that would just jump off the page. I highly recommend everyone read this book. Chris makes it very easy to get to know him before his diagnosis, as well as his journey through the difficult times, and on to the glorious time of today. Once you start reading you will not be able to put this book down. Chris keeps you intrigued and wanting to read on.

Chris Tatevosian does a great job of taking you through the twists and turns that an illness like MS can bring to an individual, a relationship, and all of those around. Hopefully "Life Interrupted" will help those with similar situations begin to understand and appreciate the mental aspects, as well as the physical conditions of this disease. I have already recommended this book to many people that are experiencing similar situations in hopes that they may avoid some of the pitfalls that Chris has experienced. Thanks Chris for bringing your story to light. Job well done!

Truth in action,

By  R. Mansfield -
This review is from: Life Interrupted: It's Not All About Me (Paperback)
This book was written with a better than 20/20 hindsight. The author tells his story without trying to gild any of his own warts and blemishes. He is brutally truthful and effectively draws the reader directly into his life and what was going through his mind at his own expense. The effect is true insight into his life as he dealt with the debilitation of MS physically as well as the emotional strains it brought into all other aspects of his life. He also reveals how he was able to overcome that "poor me" feeling and radically change his outlook on life. This book is for everyone and has special relevance for anyone struggling with a steadily progressive ailment.
