Introducing Georgian Bay Author, Orest Stocco
Born with a spiritual restlessness that could not be tamed by my Christian faith, I became a spiritual seeker when I discovered reincarnation in Plato's Dialogues at the age of fifteen. I grew up in a small town in North Western Ontario, and at twenty-one I had my own pool hall and vending machine business; but my restless spirit called me away to seek out my destiny, and I sold my business and sailed to France.
In the Alpine city of Annecy, in the Haute-Savoie region of France I had a dream that called me to my destiny. I entered into the mind of every person in the world and took every question they had ever asked and reduced them all to one question: Why am I? I returned to Canada and went to university to study philosophy to seek an answer to this haunting question, and by "chance" I discovered Gurdjieff, the redoubtable teacher of a system of transformative thought that he called "the Work." His teaching excited my restless spirit and compelled me to seek out the answer to man's disquieting question in the fast, often tumultuous currents of daily living.
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was born with a restless
spirit that could not be tamed by my Roman Catholic faith, so I became a seeker
at an early age. In high school, Ernest Hemingway fueled my desire for creative
writing, so I became a writer-seeker. My quest took me to
Describe your book ‘My Unborn Child’ in 30 words or less.
“My Unborn Child” is the story of one woman’s
life-altering experience with the soul of her aborted daughter, and her
life-long quest for wholeness.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The hardest part was writing it from a woman’s
point of view.
What books have had the greatest influence on you?
Books have always influenced me; but three books
appeared at critical junctures in my life: in grade twelve, Somerset Maugham’s
novel “The Razor’s Edge” sparked the flame of my spiritual quest; while
studying philosophy at university, P. D. Ouspensky’s book “In Search of the
Miraculous” introduced me to Gurdjieff’s teaching that changed the course of my
life; and when I exhausted Gurdjieff’s teaching, Paul Twitchell’s book “The Far
Country” introduced me to a teaching that satisfies my need to know.
Briefly share with us what you do to market your
book?
My favorite place to market my book is on
BookBuzzr.com. Also, through social networking media; namely, Facebook,
Twitter, and Spiritual Networks. I have a website http://www.oreststocco.com. I
utilize Youtube for book trailers and author readings, and also use linked
advertising, press releases, classified ads, business cards, and I always have
books at the ready in my vehicle.
How do you spend your time when you are not
writing?
I write a

I’m finishing a novel (“Healing with Padre Pio”) that explores spiritual healing with a Medical Intuitive; I’m doing the final edit for my novel “The Seeker: Quest for the Lost Soul of God,” and I’ve started a new book called “Old Whore Life And Other Spiritual Musings,” which I post on my weekly blog.
