Interview

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I started writing in high school and when I graduated, I was lucky enough to be a guest columnist for my local newspaper.  I wrote on and off for the next few years.  My work was published in literary magazines and a few commercial magazines.  I stepped away from writing for a while after my dad passed away because I took over the family home decor business.  I published one home decor book during that time, but it wasn't until the death of my own husband that I really stopped to think about what I wanted out of life.  I took a few of my literary short stories and wrote my first novel Ghost Country.  I had already written Two Out of Three, but couldn't bear to part with it yet.  After a little success with my first novel, I finally publishedTwo Out of Three, it's been one of my best decisions.

Describe your book ‘Two Out of Three’ in 30 words or less.

Two Out of Three is about a girl that is in love with a man just as twisted and broken as she is.  A toxic, but deep love.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The hardest part about writing Two Out of Three was accepting that it was not a formula romance.  The novel broke the rules in many ways and people either love it or they hate it.  My characters aren't saints, they are people you love to hate, but you still hope that if they could just get it right once and turn their lives around.  I wrote the story over 15 years ago, thinking over time the characters might change in my head, but they never did.  I just had to accept them for what they were.

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

My greatest influence would have to be Gone With The Wind.  That whole battle of the wills between the two leads was a big influence for Rob and Sarah.  Although, now I'm leaning more towards Switched and Twilight as I moved on to a new project.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

I marketed Two Out of Three on Facebook and Twitter.  I started conversations that I could tie into my book such as asking people who their favorite "bad boy" was in honor of my character Rob, or who their favorite red head was in honor of Sarah.  I wrote numerous press releases about bringing back the bad boy, how my book wasn't the average romance, and how I reworked happily ever after.  I also wrote a few articles for Ezine Articles on writing romance.  I advertised on Kindle Boards, but didn't think it was very effective.

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

My daughter is on a competitive dance team and she keeps me very busy.  Yes, I am one of those dance moms cheering her little girl on.  Our group is NOTHING like the television show.  We have a great time.  My daughter is my biggest fan, so I love to turn the tables on her and give her my support.

What are you working on next?

My next project, Spiritus, is a paranormal romance.  It has ghosts, reincarnation, and true love!  I'm real excited about it and hope that you'll be seeing it on Freado real soon!
