Interview

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm a private chef, photographer and artist from San Antonio, TX. I've adored fashion ever since I was five-years-old, when I first hugged my mother wearing a rabbit fur coat. The scent, texture, everything just invigorated a passion for beauty in me. Today, models are my most profound muses, my Everyday Aphrodites. They make my world go 'round

Describe your book ‘MOONGLOW’ in 30 words or less.

MOONGLOW is a lesbian romance set in a future fashion world that concerns a young model and her much-older lover, also her manager, and the journey of their relationship.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The time it took to craft this work was a huge weight on me. I conceptualized her for 6 years and she took 2 to write. So I spent the better part of the last decade DRENCHED in MOONGLOW. This story was always very intimate and personal for me -- her inspirations were very personal -- so I found myself unable to consciously THINK to write her. I literally had to dream or outright hallucinate every word and scene, so it took a long time. That whole creative process is much more evolved for me, more mature, so my work isn't taking that long anymore. :p It won't take another eight years for MOONGLOW 2! But, yeah, I guess my creativity was growing as much as I was. Creativity has a life of its own. We never own our creativity. In fact, I believe creativity owns us.

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

Isaac Asimov's FONDATION SAGA (all of them) and Clive Barker's IMAJICA. FOUNDATION opened a grand world of sci-fi to me. The way Dr. Asimov presented such complex ideas in a grandly approachable way really inspired me. As for Barker, his work taught me to never be afraid of the people living inside my head. These character we create, we write -- they're alive! And they CAN take over if we try to fight them. They'll win! So we have to learn to co-exist and make the best of our dual existences.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

There's nothing brief about book promotions but -- in an attempt to be short! -- I send my work to people who inspire me, I try to get listed on similar-interest websites, I send off for book reviewers to read her and will be looking to enter her in some contests soon!

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

When I'm not writing, I'm marketing MOONGLOW. I also watch fashion shows, endlessly. I listen to inspiring music, (Taylor Swift, A Fine Frenzy, Lights, classical and vocal trance mostly). I also write music for my stories and I work with my best friend, an illustrator, who helps paint the pictures I have in my head.

What are you working on next?

Several projects! MOONGLOW's screenplay is my #1 project right now. She's done but I'm refining the manuscript. As for novels, MOONGLOW 2 is underway, as is a lesbian romance fantasy-epic called DARK MOON -- about fairies! Also, I'm researching and conceptualizing a romantic tragedy novel about the whirlwind relationship between my grandfather and grandmother (on my mother's side) called SIGNAL MY HEART, after the place they lived, Signal Mountain, TN. ~I hardly have time to breathe and I love it! :D
