Melanie Jackson

I'm brand new to the writing industry. My first and only book The Wonder was released May of 2011.  As a fiction (some say Christian fiction) writer, most of my material comes from the people around me.  It took me several years to complete my book because of other duties like; raising children, working, and being a wife.  However, once I made up my mind to finish The Wonder it didn't take much time.

Interview

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a first time author from Little Rock, Arkansas who was leary about publishing my book, but ecstatic that I did.  It took some time, a year to be exact to sign the contract from my publishing company because I was unsure of what I was doing.  I am a wife and mother of three boys who are on the go and consider myself to be a fun-loving, energetic, and God-fearing person.  My degree is in Radio/TV/Film with a minor in journalism from the University of Arkansas Little Rock.  My desire in life is to make a positive difference in someone else's life.

Describe your book ‘The Wonder’ in 30 words or less.

'The Wonder' is about a young woman searching for perfection, but does not find it.  That is until the wonder of God is revealed through her many trials.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

I found the hardest part of writing my book was time.  With working and raising kids, I simply could not find the time to sit down and put pen to paper.  The characters, plots, and chapters were already lined up in my mind, but time would not afford me the opportunity.

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

The book that has the greatest influence on me is the Bible.  It has the answer to every and anything that I could and have gone through.  Also, I enjoy Neta Jackson's, 'The Yada Yada Prayer Group' series.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

Marketing has been my biggest weakness.  I have been marketing through Freado, my website, Facebook, and word of mouth.

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

When I am not writing, I am working as the community outreach coordinator for a non-profit after school program, and running behind my 12 and 14 year olds.

What are you working on next?

I am working on two books at the moment (when I have the time).  One is the sequel to 'The Wonder', and I haven't given the other one a title yet, but it is going to be interesting.
