Randall Farmer

I am Randall Allen Farmer.  I am an author, science nerd, an amateur photographer, a father, and a pencil and paper game designer and gamemaster.  My formal education was in geology and geophysics, and back in the day I worked in the oil industry tweaking software associated with finding oil.  Since I left the oil industry, I've spent most of my time being a parent, but did have enough time to get two short stories published (in Analog and Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine).  Now I'm giving epublishing a try, and I have an ample supply of novel-length publishable material to polish and publish.

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am an author, science nerd, an amateur photographer, a father, and a pencil and paper game designer and gamemaster.  My formal education was in geology and geophysics, and back in the day I worked in the oil industry tweaking software associated with finding oil.  Since I left the oil industry, I've spent most of my time being a parent, but did have enough time to get two short stories published (in Analog and Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine).  Now I'm epublishing, with one seven novel series published (The Commander series) and a trilogy set in the same universe as Storybook Crazy (the 99 Gods trilogy).

2. Describe your book Storybook Crazy in 30 words or less.
A group of friends living in a college town in 1980 become ensnared in Hell magic. They end up confronting the murderous Hell magician who is bringing forth the magic.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The endless revisions due to my (hopefully) improving writing abilities.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?
Roger Zelazny’s “Amber” series, Stephen King’s “The Stand”, and David Brin’s “Uplift” novels.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?
I am always trying new ways of getting the word out, through Kindle book websites, ebook websites such as Goodreads, and Facebook, of course.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?
Exercising, reading, and in the warmer parts of the year, yard work.

7. What are you working on next?
My next book, “The Shadow of the Progenitors”, starts a new series, “The Cause”.  It’s set in the same universe as The Commander series, and is scheduled to be epublished in April.
