1. Could you tell us
a little bit about yourself?
Writing is my passion, a skill I've been honing since I was a kid
- just 10 years old to be exact. I'm also an entrepreneur, former United States
Navy professional and track and cross-country runner. My earliest writings were
poems, then short stories. When it comes to novels, my "baby"
(my very first novel) was birthed oh-so-many years ago while I was attending
college at the University of Tennessee. I've yet to publish that book, preferring
to keep it as a jewel for myself. Maybe it'll become an Emily Dickinson moment
many, many, many years from now.
2. Describe your book
‘Love Pour Over Me’ in 30 words or less.
Romantic love, forgiveness
and friendship are painfully tested but don't part in Love Pour Over Me.
3. What was the
hardest part of writing your book?
Going into the trenches on scenes that evoked tremendous (and I
mean tremendous) emotion from me, scenes that, although not intended, resembled
real life experiences I'd had (or would go on to have months after I wrote
"Love Pour Over Me") . . . that was tough.
4. What books have
had the greatest influence on you?
Judy Blume's books when I was a kid. The Bible, A Course in
Miracles, Joyce Carol Oates', J. California Cooper, Jamaica Kincaid, Gloria
Naylor, etc. writings. The short story that moved me most deeply remains
James Baldwin's "Sonny's Blues"! Wow! Talk about
POWERFUL!!! Poignant, moving!
5. Briefly share with
us what you do to market your book?
I'm active on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, Scoopit
and LinkedIn. I also host a weekly radio show, Off The Shelf, at Blog Talk
Radio. Other steps I take to market my books include blogging, sending press
releases and occasionally running an ad in a book catalog (Ingram, etc.).
6. How do you spend
your time when you are not writing?
When I'm not writing on a novel, I'm often writing for clients
(i.e. marketing content, website content). I also work part-time for a
financial services firm in New York City, and I love being outdoors.
7. What are you
working on next?
"Gada's Glory" (working title). The story is set
in the 1940s in Chicago, Illinois. Gada's a Southern woman who has enough
fire in her belly to set Chicago ablaze, this at a time when the city was even
more at the edge of things than it is today. And although she doesn't aim to,
she does just that on the city's South Side. But, it comes at a very high
price.
Thank you again!
