Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Kahlen is a USA Today Bestselling author, who writes sizzling hot, deeply moving romance. She crosses the genre lines between New Adult/Erotica/Adult Contemporary and her books have reached #1 on Smashwords,#2 on Amazon and #23 on Barnes and Noble's Bestseller lists. She lives near Omaha, Nebraska with her daughter, Olivia and their two dogs.

2. Describe your book The Future of Our Past, Book 1 of The Remembrance Trilogy in 30 words or less.
After college, life separates best friends, forcing them to face the undeniable truth of deeper feelings they'd been fighting;  but when love is this consuming, you’ll sacrifice anything for the one person you can’t live without.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The hardest part of writing for me is the beginning of the story. You only have a couple of paragraphs to hook a reader.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?
I've read a lot of books, but I'd say The Odyssey by Homer is my favorite book of all time.  The classics, such as Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion are staples.  Who doesn't love Mr. Darcy?  Authors such as Nora Roberts, Johanna Lindsay, Fern Michaels, Jude Deveraux have always been on my shelves.  In the last few years;  I really liked the story behind Fifty Shades of Grey, The Beautiful Bastard Series, This Man Series & John Green's books are always amazing. I could name another hundred authors who I buy every book they write, many of whom have become my friends.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?
Marketing is a challenge.  Mostly, I interact with my readers and bloggers as much as possible. Facebook, Twitter, TSU.  I've done blog tours, release parties, and a lot of giveaways. I've tried a few different things in addition to social media: BookBuzzr, Freado, Book Bub, Bargain Booksy.  It is an ever-changing mix.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?
The time I'm not writing is spent with my daughter and my dogs, going for walks (which is really plotting time), movies, reading, bowling, sometimes going to concerts, sporting events or karaoke   I spend a lot of time working on my daughter's school activities.  Most of my time is spent on my books; writing, editing, plotting and talking with my readers.

7. What are you working on next?
I am working on a stand alone novel called Untouchable that is about two lost kids who find hope in each other when their parents marry.  His father, while in the depths of grief when his wife dies, basically forgets about his son, and her mother is abusive. Their age difference is great enough to mean they can't love each other, and when they are older, it may be two late.
And a new series called The Famous Novels: The first is simply titled FAMOUS.  This is a story of two people who meet on a movie set and struggle to know if what they feel is real, or just a reflection of the characters they are playing.  Also, the real world of their individual lives, and of celebrity, intrude to derail their path to love.
