Robert Breeze

Born in Hereford in 1981, i was incredibly well behaved and diligent until the age of 11, took some time out for a few years, spent 4 years at Liverpool University, then moved to London. I've worked in Local Government since 2006 and written my first books - The Chronicles Of Hope - along the way.

It's about Frank Noon, a visionary working-class genius politician who knows how to fix society's problems and form a culture based around notions of kindness, science and reason rather than greed, power and elitist ideology. Early sales have been great and thanks to everyone who has come on board and supported the intentions of the project, merely that people question everything a little more. It's a project that will take me a few years to follow through to its conclusion, and there will be various publications in addition to the novels. You can sign up to follow the whole journey at www.thechroniclesofhope.com, and follow me on twitter @robertbreeze. Thanks, hope you enjoy.

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm 32, live in the UK in London. I work in Local Government and so have to fit the writing in around that. I'm an increasingly proud redhead and am worryingly pale.

2. Describe your book 2082 (The Chronicles of Hope) in 30 words or less.

The protagonist is Frank Noon, an atheist, visionary, humanitarian, working-class genius politician, who manages a project featuring a relative asylum on a different planet.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The subject content can get you down, being shrouded in Politics and Religion. That’s why I think a lot of the narrative is deemed humorous, it was almost a defence mechanism of mine whilst writing it.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

Probably The Bible. It’s a great science fiction novel but the more we evolve as a species and the more it’s read, the more people will become conscious of the fact that it’s nonsense and that the main character is a jealous, vindictive, misogynistic, homophobic, racist, genocidal bully.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

The majority is online marketing at the moment. Interacting on forums, blogging, and social media.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

Either in the gym, in the pub, or in bed on my laptop watching nonsense on youtube.

7. What are you working on next?

I’ll be weighed down with The Chronicles of Hope series (www.thechroniclesofhope.com) for the next 2/3 years. It's likely to consist of 5 books, spanning the years 2082 – 2086. After that I’m planning to write a sitcom.
