Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a life-long reader and Science Fiction fan, as well as a computer and science enthusiast; especially Physics.

2. Describe your book The Dampening Field in 30 words or less.

An eccentric Physics professor with his own backyard lab experiences disturbing side-effects resulting from his research. Studying these effects leads him in directions he could never have imagined.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Finding the time. I had the idea in the late '90s while running my own business. I hadn't made it past the outline stage as of 1999, when a divorce and multiple moves across several cities officially put "The Dampening Field" on the back burner. I resumed (still sporadic) work on the book in 2004, and had completed it by 2006. That was when I discovered the wonderful world of "author's agents," publishers, and a host of other obstacles. (Silly me: I had always thought, you write the book, it gets published, people read it: end of story. I was in for an education.) But by 2010, "The Dampening Field" was listed on amazon.com. My last obstacle (one I am still striving to surmount) -- marketing. I remain fairly clueless on that front.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

Of all the books I have ever read, "Atlas Shrugged" probably had the greatest overall influence. But from the standpoint of writing; probably the "Dune" series. Frank Herbert was an absolute master of his craft.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

Thus far: not much. Marketing costs BIG $$$ -- most companies have a $10,000.00 minimum for any kind of "serious" advertising; so . . . freado is pretty much my first step. I have also listed "The Dampening Field" on goodreads; but that is as far as I have taken it on that front.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

Reading and researching. Most of my writing prior to "The Dampening Field" was technical writing. I have been accumulating ideas for fiction novels (mostly SciFi) for several decades, so I decided it was time to take one of the ideas to fruition. I intend for it to be the first of many.

7. What are you working on next?

Currently, assisting with research/editing/layout on a technical project (Physics) for another author. But once that obligation is complete, the next title in "The Dampening Field" series -- "Aftermath" -- is on the docket.
