Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I was born in Port of Spain and migrated to the United States 15 years ago. I've lived in New York, Los Angeles and now I am in New Mexico where I absolutely love it. I love the outdoors, hiking, biking and nature. I worked in the entertainment industry for over 15 years behind the scenes doing film and television production.

2. Describe your book Family Portrait Changes Vol. 1 (Volume 1) in 30 words or less.

Family Portrait is the series title. In Changes we meet 2 families at different stages of transformation in their lives. It's about love, death and family connections.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Adapting it to a novel. I had originally written it as a television series. Writing a book is a lot different than writing a script. With a television script you only have a specified amount of pages to tell your story, so you have to make it quick but with a novel you have to give more details. Readers like to read.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

I love books with strong female characters and flawed characters placed in tricky situations. As for a book that has influenced me, I would have to say Harmattan by Gavin Weston. It is a novel where the main character is tested in unimaginable ways and she was only 12. That book has opened my eyes to a lot of injustices in the world. I read that book about a year ago and the thought of it still evokes feelings in me.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

I have been using a combination of techniques. Book blog tours have been big for me. Also maintaining a connection with readers through social media has been good as well. I really enjoy that. I am learning new marketing techniques everyday, some work and some don't, it kind of depends.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

When I am not writing, I spend my time engaging with readers, learning new marketing techniques, hiking or bumming around town with my sister or reading.

7. What are you working on next?

I've just completed Bastard's Brew (Family Portrait 3). It is with the editor now and I am working on the cover with the designer, putting together a blog tour for the book release, and I've already started Family Portrait 4, to be released in June/July.
