Dr. Islam is also a specialist in internal medicine and is a consultant physician at the University Hospital, Uppsala, Sweden. He is the founder editor-in-chef of Islets (http://www.landesbioscience.com/journals/islets) and the founder president of Islet Society (http://www.isletsociety.org/) Dr. Islam has published approximately 40 peer reviewed publications in the area of islet research (www.publicationslist.org/shaisl). He is a pioneer of the calcium-induced calcium release concept in β-cells and has contributed substantially to the understanding of calcium signaling in the β-cells. Dr. Islam was awarded the prestigious career development award of the juvenile diabetes research foundation international, golden jubilee award of the Chittagong Medical College and the prestigious Anders Fredrick Regnells prize of the Swedish Medical Society. |
