Description

Recounting the heartwarming, uplifting and often hilarious experiences of ex-battery hens and their owners, Tales from the Coop is a must-read for anybody who appreciates the bond between pets and the people who love them. From chicken friendships and a hen’s love of treats, to the first moving glimpse of freedom from the battery cage, each story is lovingly told by owners whose ex-battery hens truly rule the roost. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the British Hen Welfare Trust and Little Hen Rescue.

My life changed forever when I became the mum of three beautiful ex-battery hens, rehomed to me by the British Hen Welfare Trust. Far from being 'bird brained', they were intelligent, cheeky, loving animals. Immediately, I decided to raise awareness and money for the BHWT; so far this has involved, amongst other things, climbing three mountains in one day, swapping Stephen Fry a posh hotel stay for his Harry Potter audio boxset, becoming a BHWT volunteer coordinator & saving 4000 ex-bats from slaughter and, now, writing a book - Tales from the Coop: The joy of ex-battery hens.

“If you ever imagined that chickens are characterless egg-laying machines, you’d be massively mistaken... The truth is, chickens are charming, comical and endearing creatures, positively bursting with personality.
This book is a delight; packed with funny, heart-warming and amazing true stories contributed by people who share their hearts and lives with ex-bats.”
