Sicania is the ancient name of Sicily an island that offers up rich and colourful past history and culture that the varied settlers since the dawn of time have added to and enhanced. Some settlements were peaceful whilst the inhabitants have enjoyed a long connection with the island they have had to adapt and accept the varied migrations and settlements on the island they call home. Having Visited Sicily and Crete many times over the years the legendary siege of Camicus by the Minoan fleet was a tale that fascinated and intrigued me being a fan of all things Minoan and ancient history both topics tied up with research on both islands for my books produced on ancient history. Tracing the accounts and legends of both islands and the ancient world the idea for the book ''Sicania Rising,'' was the result detailing an account of the Minoans campaign against Sicania that led to the battle of Camicus. With the death of a Minoan elite on Sicania alluded to by ancient writers such asHerodotus in his work the histories book 7 and Diodorus Siculus from ancient sources along with the five-year siege of the city of Camicus myths and legends often support the truth within their makeup and transmission through the generations. Minos and Daedalus have inspired many legends and myths connecting the islands of Sicily and Crete within their retelling and transmission in time. Visiting the island of Sicily and seeing the varied ancient sites in the region of Camicus not far from the city of Agrigento and the valley of the temples and the heartland of the ancient Sicanian world Enna you can feel and see the impact of the past settlers had upon the island of the blessed that is Sicily.
