On a winter visit to Daytona Beach in Florida, I walked the beach and was surprised to find Pelicans quietly resting in the sun. They were very relaxed and let you walk right up to them. While I was photographing a beautifully groomed Pelican, a small seagull walked up and stood beside the pelican. He never left. He just kept walking around as if he enjoyed being the object of my excitement and picture taking. When I got the pictures back, I thought what a good story this would make about unusual friendships. I hope my book will help children to see the exciting possibilities of having friends from different backgrounds and bringing new experiences and awareness into their lives.
