Finding himself alone in a place heshould find comfort and security is only the beginning of his problem…

Abandonedby his family, Kirk is thrust into a murderous white-collar-crime scheme.  Only fourteen years old, Kirk is forcedto grow up fast as he discovers that his hometown’s most respected elders havebeen involved in war-time fraud and will kill anyone who gets in the way.

Set in 1945rural Oklahoma, Kirk quickly realizes that he is alone in more ways thanone.  In an era long before civilrights, Kirk blatantly comes to know the war between the races, learning toaccept what he cannot understand. As the threat to Kirk’s life draws nearer, however, his rescue comes from the most unlikely of places.

Skeet, one ofthe town’s most respected elders, causes much disruption among the townspeopleby hiring a black young man, Kirk to work in his pharmacy.  Even Kirk is in disbelief, but as thestory unfolds, Skeet’s desire to truly help his fellow man comes shiningthrough.

Rainbow in the Dark renews hope that solid virtues bringserenity to a chaotic world.  Thisstory is a reminder of an unseen guiding light that miraculously leads even themost vulnerable and timid through a dark world.  The lessons learned by Kirk will be carried forward duringhis influential life.

This story provides a powerful remembrance of how times have changed in such a short period of history. The current generation would do well to read books like, "A Rainbow in the Dark", in order to understand the benefits of the society they now find themselves in.

The book was interesting and inspiring. Real live situations where a person not only survives obstacles but uses them to prevail, rejoice and pass along the benefits to others.

If you like "The Help", you will love "Rainbow in the Dark". There are a handful of books that satisfy every emotion as this on does. It carries and left me with a responsibility for extreme kindness and the profound effect it can have on a human life.

I read this book and met the men behind the book. Having done that I can only say that I can see why this book is so amazing. A story about a man who overlooked what was acceptable in his time and did his own thing and the outcome of those whose lives he touched. I love wandering around downtown Atoka in my job and picturing the places within the pages of this book. It's better than a history book that can sometimes be drab because the storyline jumps out and drags you in. I read it in a day while doing housework (yeah more reading than housework)and couldn't put it down. I am an avid reader and love being able to share great books with friends and family and this is one that has been and will continue to be shared with my fellow book lovers. ~CS AMS
