Tom's purpose for writing this book is to share his love of miniature donkeys with children and to show them how situations in their lives are similar. As a young adult he managed to run a successful business as well as his farming operation, breeding Registered Polled Hereford cattle. Along with his wife Pat, they raised five sons.
By 1978, Tom relocated his family to Florida where he continued his business ventures until his semi-retirement in 2007.
