The Story Behind This Book
One day while recovering from surgery [aka napping], I saw a picture of this despairing woman standing on a sea cliff, long reddish hair streaming behind her. I just had to explore her story and discovered she was a hero of the Far Isles Half-Elven Rebellion who gave up politics ... only to be drawn back into it.

The power of a mother's love (be she human or half-elven) comes through loud and clear in this novella. I enjoyed the fantasy aspects -- mindspeak, in particular, as well as the transferring/teleporting -- and the humor throughout was just great. The ending definitely leaves more of the story to be told, and as this novella takes place in a much larger world with its own history, that makes sense. I'm sure there will be many more half-elven tales published in the near future!
Mariah is a leader amongst her people, a hero from the wars and now a healer. Her husband, now a spy and Linden, now the King, fought together during the wars and earned for themselves and their peoples a place of honor, and a treaty, so they could live in peace.
This peace is shattered when Mariah's daughter cries out to her in 'mindspeak' that she needs her now.
What follows is a short, but intense story about war coming, politicians pretending it is not happening, and a few patriots trying to keep their world safe.
My only complaint was in the length of the tale. It should have been much, much longer.
