One of the extra perks of having your book featured on BookBuzzr is that BookBuzzr community manager Freya tweets achievements and news about you and your book to over 10,000 followers. But if you yourself are not on Twitter, you’re losing out on optimizing the tweets about your book.
Here’s why:
If on Twitter you have a natural following of people interested in what you write about, you can use tweetbeep.com to let you know when BookBuzzr has tweeted the name of your book. Then you can retweet BookBuzzr’s tweet about your book to your own followers.
This retweeting of someone else tweeting about your book gives you what is known as “social proof.” Someone else thinks your book is worth tweeting about.
And there’s even a place on your BookBuzz book information page to include your Twitter username, which can help your book fans follow you on Twitter.
Let’s talk about starting out effectively on Twitter:
Whether you’re not yet on Twitter or you are on Twitter but not yet understanding how to effectively harness its power, the first place to start is with an effective Twitter profile:
Fill out the Twitter profile as completely as possible, which isn’t time-consuming because the profile is very brief:
- Your real name in the field in setting that says real name (make sure to put a space between your first and last name so that it is easier to search for you on Twitter)
- Username that makes sense for your brand and does NOT have an underline in it
- Headshot of you and not your book cover (do not wear sunglasses or a hat that blocks your eyes and it’s best to smile)
- One hot link to your website or your BookBuzzr page or a social media profile other than Twitter
- Bio that positions your brand (you only get 160 characters)
Warning: Do NOT choose a dark color for the sidebar background. If you do, most people won’t be able to read your profile info.
Next include a couple of tweets (do NOT say “new to Twitter”) that complement your bio info.
Then you can start following a few people in order to get a feel for effective Twitter participation.
One way to find people to follow is to go to http://twitter.com/BookBuzzr and, after following BookBuzzr, click on the lists on the right-hand sidebar and follow some of those people.
