How to Share Your BookBuzzr AuthorPage Widget on Your Facebook Fan Page

Check out the latest version of the AuthorPage Widget here

The first version of the BookBuzzr Widget worked flawlessly with Facebook. You simply clicked on the Facebook icon inside the widget, followed a few prompts and you’d have your book widget appearing on your Facebook profile. The instructions for this were presented in an earlier blog post.

Then Facebook changed the rules.

Under the new rules, your Facebook page cannot feature any widgets on your personal Facebook profile page.

So we’ve worked on a fix for this problem. And it works only on your Facebook Fan pages (aka public profiles … we’ll be using “the phrases public profiles and fan pages interchangeably.) All BookBuzzr Author Pro subscribers automatically get access to BookBuzzr’s AuthorPage Widget along with all of the other cool book promotion technologies such as the Hangman game, exposure in the CoverMatcher game on and the Amazon Sales Alert tool.

Here are the steps to get your BookBuzzr AuthorPage Widget to work on your Facebook fan page (PLEASE NOTE: If you don’t have a Facebook fan page, please take some time to create a Facebook Fan page. This is going to become very important for all authors. Also, the rest of these steps will not work for you if you don’t have a Facebook fan page.)

If you don’t have a Facebook fan page, please follow the below steps to create a Facebook fan page:

  2. Go to
  3. Click on ‘Artist, Band or Public Figure’.
  4. Choose category as Author.

  6. Click on “Get Started”.

  1. I can’t get my author widget on my fan page. After I hit Share on the pop-up the Facebook permission page says done, but it’s blank.
I set up my fan page yesterday.

  2. There’s nothing to click on the permission page. It’s blank. I just tried again, and it’s still blank.

    1. Theresa,

Thank you for pointing out this issue. We found this issue exists in Internet Explorer. Can you please try sharing the AuthorPage widget in other browsers(Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.) In the meanwhile we will fix this issue.

  3. Queston: I already have a custom designed Welcome Page on FB. Can this Widget be inserted as a different tab? So that it does replace my existing welcome page. I would like to use it but don’t want to change what I already designed and paid for. Thanks in advance for your help!

  4. Yes, it worked great, but it made all my hard work on that page disappear! Is it gone for good? What if I cancel bookbuzzr. Is my work still going to be there?

  5. I realize that if I cancel my subscription, the widget will go. Please answer my question. If I cancel it, will all my work still be there? I thought I would get a small widget on the page, not a large thing and my work is gone.

  6. Ranga: Why are you avoiding and not directly answering Debra’s question? It is painfully obvious what you are doing. Does not look good or represent your organization too well. I had the same question (once again incompletely addressed). This is why I did not sign up. It appears you have a serious programming problem with people who have already invested time and money customizing their FB Welcome Page, then they try to install your widget (which is very nice if it did not delete the existing welcome page!) and your wedget appears to delete what was already there instead of just adding a new tab. Please address her question head on and as good service would suggest, please help her find a solution…she odviously really wanted to use your services. As did I.

    1. Dear Michael,

With regard to your point about Debra’s issue, we’re pleased to let you know that it has been resolved to Debra’s satisfaction.

You also mentioned that “it is painfully obvious what you are doing.” This is a hurtful comment and we’re deeply saddened that you feel that way. It is my intention and that of my company – BookBuzzr – to treat our author customers with fairness. We’re looking to build a long term relationship and reputation here and are doing all we can to ensure our authors success.

Finally, coming to your question the essence of which appears to be as under:

Will my existing installed widget go away when I install the BookBuzzr AuthorPage Widget?

      The answer is “No.”

Your existing widgets and FB apps will not disappear. You will be able to access them via the menu bar on the left of your Facebook fan page.

Hope this helps. I will also be in touch with you via email to help you sort out these issues.

  7. Debra,

If you cancel your subscription your widget will disappear. At present we don’t offer any small widget for free.

    Sorry about the inconvenience.

If you have any further concerns, please send me an email

  8. Ok, thanks for the reply. I like BookBuzzr, but I would have not put the facebook widget on if I’d know I would lose my pretty page. It would be good to make people aware before they take the step. Many thanks for BookBuzzr, a great tool.

  9. Hi Michael,

I just want to let you know that I have received more than one email from the Bookbuzzr group and they have made every effort to help. I do like Bookbuzzr very much. I just wish I’d have known in advance what would happen with the page. They have assured me that the information will be more clear for future users. It often takes some time before all issues are brought out and cleared up in any community.

    Thanks to all,

  10. Thank you Debra. We appreciate your input. Also, just to let you and Michael know …

Installing the BookBuzzr AuthorPage widget on your Facebook fan page does not delete any of your existing tabs or widgets. One live example can be seen here:

Hope this helps and resolves the issue once and for all.

  11. From #9 down not ONE instruction is correct, nor do any of the items appear as noted in the instructions either on FB or on BookBuzzer. I’ve written several emails to you and no one has answered them. I am trying to get an answer about how to publish this to FB. PLEASE RESPOND.

    1. Hi Carol,

Sorry for your troubles. Looks like Facebook has made some changes. We will check this issue and will be in touch with you soon.

  12. Everything posted has changed as far as I can tell. They are saying as well that as of 1/1/2012 that the FBML will not longer operate and that fan pages are now part of the profile in some way I’m not clear about. I did not use the generated code BookBuzzr gave me as it will not be usable within 5 weeks. No point. I did get a fan page to generate and drop in the book information from your site, but I’ve absolutely no idea what happened. It just appeared and not on the page I created either. I had to delete originally created page and recreate one, then I the Bookbuzzr excerpt appeared as an AUTHORPAGE on the right of the profile. Still, not notices from FB about how that happened.

  13. OMG I am so lost. I thought I had a fan page because I have a Facebook page, but when I clicked “Share” on the widget it said I do not have a fan page. So I went to Facebook create page, where it seems to have created an author page, but the photo will not load, and the widget does not seem to appear with the tabs, etc. I can’t tell if I have friends on it yet or not. I don’t know how to invite friends. I downloaded the Facebook page manual and my screen does not look at all like the manual. Please help! This is a mess! Can I delete the fan page and start over? How? here is the URL

  14. Okay, I got an author page started (where do I want my body sent?). Whew. Now I have a real tech question: I did enter the buying URLs for the book, but the app seemed not to take them. Can help? Thanks, Jane

  15. Ranga,

I have no idea what I did but my FB page is missing. I set it up as Jack City and then somewhere around step 12 I got lost and couldn’t find anything. Please help

  16. Hi,

I have tried to follow the instructions above but seems the fan pages switched to “Timeline” view at the end of April, so the views and steps are quite different – got lost! I seem to have installed the bookbuzzr app on my page but need to know if it is correct?
Are you going to update the instructions soon on how to do on Timeline?

    1. Hi Rahma,

Sorry for your troubles. Gareth followed the instructions above and was able to share the AuthorPage widget on his fan page. We’ve checked your fan page and noticed that you have successfully installed AuthorPage widget on your fan page Guardian Cats. Please follow step No. 15 to view the AuthorPage widget on your fan page.

If you have any queries / suggestions please feel free to mail me.
